Evening all
Clootiesmum I am so sorry to hear about your nephewI do hope he will be ok!
FVD, my dental hygienist is lovely, but I have had some who were not  The dentist is lovely too. We have to pay private round here, as NHS dentists are like hens' teeth, and access tends to be limited to children and benefits claimants, so I might just as well go to one that I like! I recently 'dumped' one practice, when the nice 'old' dentist we had been to for years retired and it was taken over. The new dentists were actually ok, but the new hygienist had obviously attended the same charm school as FVD's, and they employed a really strident and bossy receptionist when the nice previous lady left. It just seemed really loud and disorganised, and I thought I would rather spend vast sums of money elsewhere
Lots of chat about planting seeds.... well, except for greenhouse things and a few really hardy things such as broad beans, peas, garlic, onions etc, it is still plenty early enough to sow outside. I shan't be sowing anything (apart from those mentioned above) till the end of this month or beginning of next, depending on the weather! Tomato seeds are sitting in a pot of compost on the kitchen windowsill, and the potatoes are sprouting in an egg box in OH's den windowsill
Bleurrgh, went to an auction today, as I am short of stock for my business, even though not much is selling atmI know it looks good fun on Bargain Hunt, but in reality it is really boring and takes ages ... and it was freezing in there today as well
Anyway, I bought some stuff, and have done all the associated paperwork etc. I got a couple of duff lots, but most of it is ok, and I didn't pay much for it. I will put the boxes away tomorrow.
Apart from that:
Sold a vase on ebay, but the buyer hasn't paid yet. Sent an invoice.
OH got 2 lbs (just under a kg) of bacon bits from one of the butchers in town for £1 :T Now divided up into 6 bags for soup, quiches etc
Cooked food from stores tonight, despite not feeling like it
Walked dog
An Ipsos survey that I was miraculously not screened out of, only 10 more points needed now for a £10 Amazon voucher :T

This week, I've redone my car insurance from 593 to 280 so monthly payments have pretty much halved.
Redone contents insurance from £82 to £43 paid in one go
Called to cancel Sky - only on the basic package anyway - and was going to get NowTV at around £8 but he's dropped my Sky down to £10.10 for 18 months so made sense to keep it, plus we got movies free for a month and he's advised to call in August to see what broadband offers they have as our contract with them runs out in September and also our area is getting fibre in the next couple of month, he seemed to think we'd get it for free.
Also took a £70 bag back to TK Maxx that I got 6 months ago that had ripped - normally would just have thrown it away but contacted them on twitter and they sorted it for me.Hell yeah!!0 -
Did write a post earlier but it disappeared so thought I would redo before going to bed.
A good day today:j
Dropped daughter and friend off at railway station for a night away for an event tomorrow.
Finally got round to cleaning stairs.......only taken me a week to tackle:rotfl:
Good news is that my water direct debit will be going down from next month. That works well with my daughters mobile.....managed to negotiate a lower payment on that:A
Dishwasher sorted and a load of washing on.
Haven't done paperwork yet....I will do that in the morning:o along with parcelling up the first of the birthday presents to send
FVD if I was u I would say something about today. I am the type that doesn't like to complain, but when u get poor service like that, it's awful. Hoping the gums are doing better.

Dawn, I am actually registered with an NHS dentist but it is murder getting an appointment so I went privately. (The last time I took my son for a filling so long had elapsed from his check up to when we could get an appointment they didn't do the filling but gave him another check up as it was due again!)
I asked my mum, who also has an NHS dentist, how much she pays for the hygienist and she said 'forty something' and mine was £53 so there doesn't seem to be a huge difference in price.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Evening!
Cashed in my coins saving tin today, so many had to use a counting machine. Amazing tip from elsewhere on MSE that HSBC do it for free so no commission paid. Cashed in value is £27 so I immediately took the little ones for an ice cream at a local diner, cost £12 but they loved it. Not sure what to do with rest, probably allocate to savings fund.
Also got free breakfast today as I'm a scout leader, bacon overdose! Bonus
Stb , you can also use it to pay for your supermarket shopping on the self service tills to avoid the whopping 7% commission charge on the counting machine if HSBC aren't open. Extra ice creamMake £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Forgot to say, congrats DNMS for passing the probation, all the best people have been sacked once in their life (I've been sacked twice so I must be *really* good
)
The first time was straight out of school when I would take a little nap on the desk in the down times (it seemed perfectly reasonable to me at the time!) If that hadn't happened I'd have never gone on to work in magazines though.
The second time was by a company that did work for a mail order catalogue and had a reputation for hiring people for three months just to do the catalogue then sacking them in the down times. I raised it at my interview and they assured me they wouldn't. Instead they waited for 9 months and two rounds of the catalogue before sacking meIf that hadn't happened I'd never have gone freelance which pretty much doubled my income overnight.

DawnW that mention of auctions brought back childhood memories! My sister and I used to have to tag along to them with our mum during school holidays and we always used to find places to hide among the furniture and play imaginary games.
So, DFW experts, I've been contemplating putting a fortnightly trip round the charity shops into my calendar, but I can't decide whether I'll end up spending more, as I'll see things I fancy or that are a bargain and end up buying unnecessary stuff and spending more than just buying what we need new, when we need it.Trying to figure out a whole new life. Trying to figure out a whole new budget.
Divorcing, unclear on final debt total right now, but focusing on building a financial buffer zone.0 -
Hi everyone!
TOP - what's the logic of scheduling in CS trips? I can only imagine I'd spend more that way so was just wondering what your thinking was.
FVD - nightmare about the apt. I'd definitely complain now and not worry about waiting until the end of your treatment cycle.
The dog woke me up this morning - now he's sorted he's back in bed snoring and I am up!! Might try another little snooze. I was crocheting last night so might just sit here doing some more of that.
I'm going back to the start and KMing today!!! Excited!
Need to go to aldi - OH just got enough for the weekend yesterday rather than a big shop. We've got sausage casserole for today so I don't need to go but it's always better to have in stuff for packed lunches or it's a slippery slope to the staff canteen! :rotfl:
We're sorting our bathroom too - putting up a new blind, re-sealant around the bath.
Free activities - yoga at home, reading, watching tv etc, crocheting, dog walking....
Happy Sunday!0 -
Tonplaymobil - I love hitting the charity shops in town & have a couple of friends who enjoy the thrill of the chase too, so we sometimes meet up to see what we can find. We acquired our debts (£35k at their peak) by buying stuff & frittering, so in case that urge is still lurking inside me, I'm careful not to replace full price spending splurges with buying tat I don't need in charity shops.
But I love hunting for bargains so what I do is have a list of items I'm looking for. At the moment that's a 1930s style vintage mirror (on a chain with the bevelled edge that our Nans had) for our bedroom, a vintage glass trifle bowl as a gift for someone who wants one, any oddments of 1970s Portmeirion china, good quality 100% cotton sheets, a particular cookery book, etc.i always look at the clothes but I don't generally buy anything that I wouldn't at least have tried on if I'd seen it in a normal shop. Buying clothes I only sort of like is a waste of money whether it's £3 or £43. Every so often, I find something lovely. I bought a long purple velvet tube skirt in December & a fab slinky black top last month - one wsd £2.49 & the other £2.79 for an outfit that definitely looks good enough to wear to an occasion. So charity shop treasure hunting is a bit of a hobby of mine, but the same money mantraa apply. If don't need it & don't love it, leave it there for somebody else & take your money back home with you.
