Great news that you're cancer-free Kathryn! Yikes to no tomatoes though, I have no idea what you could substitute them with. I'm like you, they're a huge staple in my diet. Agree with what others have said though, your health is more important than sticking to SW at the moment.
Shala, just realised I didn't highlight my weigh in earlier on - it was a 0.5lb gain.
Have a great weekend everyone xWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Evening all!
Happy Birthday, joedenise! :bdaycake:
Hugs, lantana - hope things feel better soon... :grouphug:
Good-ish day, today - stuck to food plan and avoided the heaving biscuit tin at work. :T Should have recorded ½syn for the horseradish in lunchtime's soup (which is totally worth it!), but came home tonight and had wine with dinner...:o Shared a bottle (well, had a glass with dinner, but am sitting watching telly now with a second glass ). At 13%, the WLP tells me that's 17 syns (oops!), but after a stressful day at work, I'm enjoying every mouthful, and its only 17½ syns over 2 days, so I'm totally fine with that. :rotfl:
Tomorrow's menu is:
B: Cheese (HExA) omelette with mushrooms and tomatoes
L: Roasted Mediterranean Vegetable soupJacket potato with the other half of tonight's coleslaw (why can you never make a small amount of coleslaw, even when you deliberately try to only use a small amount of ingredients?!!:p) and ham and salad
HExB: hmmm, maybe hi-fi bars... Still TBC!
Have a good weekend - I'm working tomorrow...

Kathryn I've been thinking about how to replace tomatoes in recipes - I'm not sure what is 'banned' from your diet but could you roast and pulp red peppers, sweet potato or butternut squash? I'm assuming you can use herbs to enhance the flavour. Peppers would give you the colour, too.
I'll think on it a bit more.........0 -
Forgot to say, glad to hear that your op was successful, Kathrynha - I'm sure you'll soon sort out a way to Food Optimise around your dietary restrictions where possible.
But, as others have already said, your health is the important thing, so if the scales go a bit "wobbly" for a little while until you get sorted, its a small price to pay in the overall scheme of things...

Kathryn - just googled what to substitute for tomatoes in recipes and came across this site http://www.nomato.com/ which is a no tomato sauce. It says it's available mail order but not sure if the site is American so may not be available here.

Unfortunately sweet potato and squash are out. Carrot is similar consistency and okay though. And yes fresh herbs and most spices are okay apart from salt.Kathryn - just googled what to substitute for tomatoes in recipes and came across this site http://www.nomato.com/ which is a no tomato sauce. Unfortunately some stuff on the ingredient list is on my banned list, but only minor ingredients so gives me ideas on how to make something similar myself.Kathryn found this recipe via Google - of any help??

4 out of 6 ingredients are okay, but cooking method would need adapting.
Thank you ladies. Think I now have a basis for a sauce I can make to replace tomato based sauces. I think carrots are my new friend. Not a favourite veg of mine but with list being so limited I need to embrace them..
Can't use any of the cooking water from veg, but will just have to cook, drain then add fresh water when blitzing for consistency.
You are absolutely brilliant people because I can now put chilli and bolognese (with a few more adaptions) back on my menu. Thank you so muchZebras rock0 -
Wow wiz 55 years wedding anniversary is amazing. I thought I was doing well at 46 years in just over 2 weeks.
Glad you now have some ideas for a no tomato tomato sauce katheryn. Hope it gives a good taste to your chilli, bolognaise etc.
As travelling back home today food not easily planned! So far it's going to be museli for breakfast and will probably make the potato based pizza for dinner when we get home as we didn't need dinner after our huge lunch. Lunch will be on the way home so no idea what yet.
