    Hi amy,

It is indeed possible to make your own. Have a look at this thread:

    Ironing Water

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the replies together.

  • We have an EBAC dehumidifier which produces several pints of condensed water each week. I've seen on the internet that this pure water is just fine for using in steam irons. Maybe a drop or two of lavender oil with it would make the ironing smell nice too!
With even own brand ironing water costing over £1/litre, this will save a bob or two.
  • oh heck - I've been using tap water all these years...

I use tap water as well. My iron lasts around 18 months to 2 years before the plate won't clean anymore. I assume this is due to hard water.

Condensed water? Is that thicker than normal water? :)

I thought if you put tap water in your iron it caused limescale but using ironing water did not.
  • I have so much form for knocking irons over, dropping them, knocking them and then grabbing by the cord that limescale is really the least of my worries.

However a lot of them are self clean these days. However I have multiple dehumidifiers and I shall be looking into this. Thank you.
