  • I'd say you're getting declined as they can't find you. Get yourself on the electoral roll asap and change your addresses with your current bank to match your electoral address. Give it 2 months and try again once the credit agency's have linked your address. Hopefully the searches won't even appear if they weren't able to find you by the details you gave.

Even then you might not get accepted due to having to credit history, in theory they're giving a stranger a £600 loan without any credit history. A sim only contract you'd have no problem getting once your on the electoral roll though they might put a spending cap on until you build some history up to see your trust worthy.

If you do go down the pay as you go option instead have a look on gumtree, there appears to be a few from £400 ish or slightly less, granted probably used but for a few weeks old phone in mint condition v a £200 saving can't be bad :) so possibly the same phone for £400 and you could possibly get a giff gaff sim for say £15 a month or less?

Also once you are on the electoral roll a great way to start building credit history would be getting a Aqua credit card and pay it off in full every month. Be sure to run a soft search beforehand to see what chances you have of being accepted. A soft search will leave no hard foot print on your file so lenders won't even see the searches https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/eligibility/

After 6 months or so using your Aqua card and paying it off in full you should have no problem getting a phone contract. other bad credit building cards are available Aqua is just the first that came to my mind.

You say the benefit of contract is that you can switch phones after two years. Well if you buy phone outright and get a sim only deal or pay as you go then you can switch phones whenever you want.

Buying outright usually cheaper than contract have you watched martinis money show couple weeks ago they were talking about that. I would get your address for bank sorted to where you actually live

I think it's probably down to not being found. As far as I'm aware, a mobile phone contract is one of the easiest types of credit to obtain. Almost every youngster has one, and I'm sure many don't even know what a credit file is.

I only think you'd run into issues if you have recent defaults/CCJs, which you won't have if you've never taken out credit before.

I actually got a phone contract a few years ago when there was a recent default (on a phone contract) and very little credit history to go on. I wasn't approved automatically, but I was told to call and they took some additional information (salary etc) and then approved it. I suspect you're more likely to face that situation instead of being rejected outright.

Although you may not have this opportunity if you go through a middle-man like Carphone Warehouse. It would be better to apply for a contract directly with your preferred network.

Why have you registered on the electrol roll at your mams when you live with your dad. The electrol roll allows you to vote so if you have it at your mams when you don't live there you could be voting in the wrong ward.

He could have lived there in the past but not yet changed it.

Because my Bank Account is registered at my mums and I spend a lot of time there anyway.
