Also my phone is embarrassingly old lol. I wouldn't see the point in spending lots on a new good phone then getting another on contract.

If they couldn't match your address, there may never have been a credit search - it could be simply that they couldn't find you.
Check your address is up to date on your credit files and that you're on the electoral roll at your current address before doing anything else. FYI when I just turned 18 (6 years ago but anyway...), O2 didn't like me but Vodafone did.0
