Sky repair fee....

Sorry if its been mentioned before.....its my first post and rant!
I spoke to the online chat people as my sky box won't work and keeps showing an initialising message. Was told because my box is out of warranty i have to pay a fee of £60 for an engineer to come out.....I made a comment and said i thought it was unfair as it was still there equipment and it was faulty....guy knocked the charge down to £30. I said i still wasn't happy so he 'goes to speak to his manager' to see what they can do....message comes back to say there going to waiver the fee. It'll will be a free call out and i no longer have to pay and there going to credit my account for the loss of service.
Has anyone else come across this before?
Is this Sky way of making more money out of customers that would just agree to pay the £60 fee?
Im just writing this so more people are aware and don't get conned out of paying a £60 fee when with a little comment back you can have a call out for free!
Thanks

Sky charging a call-out charge then deciding not too. Hardly news is it. Similar posts if you search.0 -
The Sky+ box is not Sky's; it's yours and has just 12 months' warranty. Q boxes are different and have to be returned if you stop the service. (This could make future deals less easy to come by, as if you end the service, so return the box, to take any new offer you may have to pay for re-delivery.)0

As long as you are out of contract, they will cave and fix it for free.
Makes me laugh when I get cold called "on behalf of sky" (yeah, right), about insuring my sky box against breakdown.0 -
I keep a spare bought locally for £10 just in case..0

I just searched this forum as my sky box packed in.
Followed your guidance and got a free visit saving £65.
Thank you very much xxSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
mine packed in recently, bought one down cash generator for £10, plug into phone line and go into engineer service menu, do a fresh install, it rings back and pairs your card, and away you go...
(this is also a good way to get cheap hard drives.. I have bought another 2 boxes there for £10 each, ripped em open and now have 2x extra 500gb hard drives in my pc for £20...)0 -

We are having problems with our Sky HD box
It keeps on dropping it’s signal to zero
I have followed the normal route and refreshed the box – but at 5pm every evening – the signal disappears completely – for about 10 seconds then it returns and for the next hour it comes and goes
If I ask sky to come and fix it – they will charge me – I am just out of contract
What is the best way forward ?:
Should I upgrade to a new Qbox or will this cost me ?
I don't know whether it is the box or the dish & cable
If I go for a new Qbox – will I be able to watch TV on a second set via cable or will they try to charge me extra for facility ??0 -
Call them, say you want it fixed. When they say there is a charge, tell them you will cancel.
Worst case, You might have to accept a new 12 month contract, but they will come out and fix it for free.0 -

If it's guaranteed to drop at 5pm come what may then I would look around at what else is happening at 5pm in your house when the signal drops. Central heating perhaps? Something else firing up at 5pm? Somebody opening a window somewhere that's in line of your dish?
LNBs don't have concept of time and usually if they're faulty they'll begin to go at all hours of the day, not specifically at 5pm.
As to Sky Q, it's wireless. There are no other wires beside power and the connection to the second TV.0
