I think thats a really good idea (if you don't mind me saying so!). Ilove the diarys, think they are so good to have a read through to get some idea of whats ahead, and if they were all in one place that would make it much simpler for me to locate them!
I * think * (but am probs very wrong!) what to do is PM one of the MSE experts (is it MSE Dan who deals with the forums...?) and maybe provide a link to this thread and they can have a peek.LBM : August 2007my debts: less than this time last year....!DFW Nerd Club #706I'm Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -

Ahhhhh thats where it is from!! I know I'd seen it somewhere but couldn't remember where!! :rotfl:
I think I would support a sub-board for diaries too. This board moves so quickly sometimes that things can get lost very quickly here!! I love the diaries and they are a sounce of invaluable advice, support etc and I would read them all if I ever had enough time! However, they do add to the very high turnover of posts.

I agree that a sub board would be useful. I know the diaries are DFW info and contain loads of advice but someone who's just registered and is panicking about something isn't going to work their way through loads of posts in a diary to find advice.
I do enjoy the occasional perusal of a diary thread but I can see the problem having so many could cause (and the challenges). Maybe we should have a sub board for newbie enquiries instead?Pardonez mois, mais votre cheval est dans mon cochon d'inde.

I think the trouble with subboards is you run the risk of them taking over kind of like the benefits board. As long as it's strictly split into debt free wannabie and debt free wannabe debt diaries then it'd be ok.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Hi I've had a reply from Martin, here's what it says
Hi.
We don't really decide by poll. I've rejected the sub-forum idea in the past to be honest as I think its confusing. If someone wants to set out the arguments, I will take a look

reason for sub forum number 1 - will stop newbies posts getting lost so quickly therefore we can help out and hopefully they will stay!!!0

Argument against sub forum 1 - May create a clichey between newbies and oldies who keep diaries like when they made the bankruptcy board.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

I personally don't mind whether there is a sub-board for diaries or not, I can see advantages and disadvantages to both options.
One issue I can see though is when does a newbie post become a diary? Because there are some diaries that purposely started off as diaries, but many started as a plea for help and turned into a diary along the way. When does 'support and advice' become 'chat'? I think it would possibly cause arguments if some threads were moved to a diary sub-board and not others.
As a newbie, the diaries were where I looked for inspiration, and are still the places I go to now for new ideas and to give and receive support. I do try and read any new threads that pop up though and offer help where I can, and I do check back a couple of pages too to make sure there aren't any threads that have gone unanswered.
Maybe I'm here at the wrong times (although I'm here at various points throughout the day) but I rarely see a newbie post go unanswered, and if there is one, it's usually because what they are asking is very specialised or complicated, and most of us 'normal folk' don't know the answer.
My feeling is that if you take away the diaries, you will take away the sense of community that makes DFW so special and unique. It will just be a rather dry financial forum. And I think that may be more offputting to newbies than the diaries are.
But I'm happy to be proved wrong if people do feel a change is needed."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
