First things first. No-one should ever open some other person's mail. and making use of any info inside is definitely theft of one kind or another.
So, The straight answer is NO! Fullstop! - under No circumstances!0 -
You can't use them without the card, having just moved myself I would e-mail Tesco and explain then they can get in touch via e-mail, it's easy enough to sort out unwanted mail, just tell people!0

The Postal Services Act 2000 says that "A person commits an offence if, intending to act to a person's detriment and without reasonable excuse, he opens a postal packet which he knows or reasonably suspects has been incorrectly delivered to him."
It's perfectly reasonable to open post that continues to be delivered to your address ages after the previous resident has moved.
Using vouchers found in that post is obviously to their detriment and would be against the law.0 -
6 Years is quite a long time! It is so frustrating to keep writing 'return to sender, not at this address' and walking to find a postbox. I have been doing this for 8 months already and it is driving me mad. Companies just don't seem to take any notice, that's if the letters actually do get back to them??
We bought a flat last year and the previous tenant was renting the property and after a few problems she had to be evicted as she refused to move out. She didn't supply us, the landlord or the managing agent with a forwarding address or didn't come back for any of her post.
For a while I was walking to the managing agents office to give them her post but they said they would not except it.
We were receiving the bulk of the post from NPower, I called them to tell them Mrs **** did not live at the property anymore and they should know that as my name is now on the new account and linked to the address, they asked for a forwarding address and I said I did not have one and their response was, "if we don't have a forwarding address, we'll have to keep sending her post to your address!" I called them 3 times about the issue and told them on the last phone call if they keep sending the letters they will be going straight in the bin. They said "You can do what you like with them, we still have to send them".
I'm worried now after reading previous posts whether I should open any of her other mail as there could well be Debt Collector letters coming in linked to our property that we are not aware of!.0 -
No that would be stealing. Contact Tesco.0

I gave our previous owners six months of dealing with post by RTS.
After that, I opened it to make sure there weren't any debt demands and then binned the post. Post from repeat offenders went straight into recycling without opening.0 -
I don't think you're able to spend them, not without the relevant clubcard... But to be honest, I'd be inclined to call customer services and ask them to send an email to the person explaining things and asking them to update their address.
They might have fallen foul of an autofill bot.
Regarding opening mail, I think it is acceptable in certain cases - I've opened previous tenant's gas/leccy bills so I could notify them the old person had moved - particularly because in many cases, I've found people leaving a lot of outstanding bills, and they were on the verge of sending debt collectors! I wouldn't open a bank statement or anything like that though.0 -
You can't use the vouchers without the Tesco club card which presumably you don't have0

What Tesco Clubcard will do is:
- put a hold on the account so that points accumulate, and no vouchers get sent out,
- when the customer next uses their card in-store they'll get a till-spit asking them to contact Clubcard - who will then, when previous details are confirmed amend the address, which will enable vouchers to go out in future.
So, anybody at the old address shouldn't get any more Tesco post relating to someone else.
It is card-holder's responsibility to inform Clubcard of any change of details.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
According to the Postal Services Act 2000, it is illegal to open mail that is not addressed to you, unless you can show reasonable excuse.
I doubt that "stealing someone else's clubcard vouchers" would be classed a a reasonable excuse!0
