  • This thread is hilarious. Cagey, you're the most uninformed, agressive poster I've encountered in a long time.:

"I trust my postman, but the others ............
Well, actually we have three postmen who share our route. One has NEVER delivered ANYTHING to our house. One delivers something every other time, and the third one, whom I trust, is always laden down with letters for us. Coincidence?????? I think not."

    Eh?

Back to the original subject...you say that you have "...been shot at in shanghai, mugged in manchester, goosed in gloucester, rubbed against in rotheram..." or something along those lines, yet for all those experiences, no one has ever told you that it's a really bad idea to send cash through the postal system? It's common sense man!

And as to explaining to your grandchildren that a cheque is in fact the same as a ten pound note....erm, whats the problem exactly? isn't that how kids learn? Mightn't that compel them to embark on worthwhile learning experience, such as opening a bank account, depositing the cheque, learning some fundamentals of saving that might stand them in good stead in the coming years etc? and all the better, it would be YOU that they would thank in the future for introducing them to this important piece of the world.

Or you could just give them a tenner so they could nip down to the corner shop and blow it all on sugar and fizzy pop..

  • But what really upset me the most was when one person made flippant remarks about being burgled and mugged.

    That'll most likely be me.

When people start acting silly I reserve the right to join in. When the OP started comparing Royal Mail to the serial killer Harold Shipman I think that line was crossed and he descended from the sublime to the ridiculous. I do not feel my reply was any more ridiculous.

Sorry to hear you are going off in a huff and leaving behind the happy community on MSE, I thought you Northern Lasses were made of sterner stuff and not prone to sulking.

If people come on here making outlandish comments and then getting all angry when people call them out, I think they need to step back, take a deep breath and apply a little common sense. Is this really asking so much?

    :D

What irks me is that there will be some people that will claim that the Cagey & Yorkslass27 were so upset by the 'abusive' replies that they left, never to be seen on MSE again.
  • Genuine question: what are the differences between The Post Office, Royal Mail and Consignia?

    Consignia no longer exists.

Royal Mail Group is the parent company.

    Then you have:

Royal Mail (deliver items A to B, hopefully not losing them en-route).

Parcelforce (delivering heavier items from A to B). If Royal Mail are striking consider paying a little more (for light items) and send Parcelforce as they normally don't strike at the same time, ask at the Post Office.

Post Office Ltd (responsible for overseeing services in Crown offices, sub-offices and multiples(supermarkets, etc)). Services such as bill payments, postal orders, insurance products, mail services (Royal Mail and Parcelforce), mortgages, foreign money and travellers cheques, home phone services(broadband soon), credit card (Martin recommends it!) and lots more.

Royal Mail Cashco (engaged in the secure movement of cash)

I hope this answers your question.

I work for Post Office Ltd.

The only thing to be careful off is that Parcelforce will not deliver an item if the postcode is not correct and the onus is on the sender to check it has been received. Royal Mail will try to deliver an item as long as they can work out the address.

BTW I found this thread amusing.

The OP didn't consider that it may not have been the Royal Mail's fault at all.

The postman could have been attacked for the post or had some of the post stolen. Plus if you live in a street and ask the postman for post for number x the postman is often happy to give it to you, so a theiving individual could have stolen the card.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

As for mis-address/incomplete address items, didn't the Dispatches programme show postmen dumping mail behind hedges, in bins or some such. Is this proper procedure? Surely it would be better to take them back to the depot and put them in a box, where they could be looked at if a claim ever came in, thus eliminating compensation.

anyone know where i can get 'a box' that can hold a few million letters incase someones looking for a letter?

@ Yorkslass27 i used to ebay full time so made sure i knew what postage service was appropriate.
the despatches programme, how many years ago? one office using a high % of agency staff.i would hope RM learned some lessons by now.
  • btw my hubby is not only a postman but our surname is Shipman so I think he's had it on all counts ,theres no hope for him ( definately a criminal mastermind):rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
most postmen work very hard, from early morning, and they all should not be tarred with the same brush!!:D
