Re the bank accounts, it's generally not recommended to have all bank accounts with one provider.
The Banks systems can and do screw up, if that happens how would you manage without access to money?
Just look on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts board to see the problems caused when there is a systems failure or the Bank decides to freeze the account.0 -

Money's so boring ... let's talk about CHOCOLATE for a moment.

Wow, that was quick! £1,000 in less than a month, not even halfway through week four. At a usual credit card rate of 20% per annum, that's £200 tax free dollars a year....forever....clawed back from the money lender (makes them sound more sinister than "banks").
That's a great effort.0 -
Was busy yesterday evening, forgot to round up my lists!
To Do today:
1. Social media while working. Done!
2. Food shopping. Done! More on this later.
3. Prevent the ironing basket returning to its Everest-esque status of last week. Done!
4. Find a cheap recipe for some kind of chocolate brownie pudding tonight that uses store cupboard ingredients and not too many eggs. Done, thanks to the sterling work of MSE-ers!!
To do this week::
1. Look into changing bank accounts and decide whether we want the hassle (I rather like having all our accounts available under one login, not sure I want to open up three new accounts).
2. Make the statement payment to the barclaycard (it will come out by DD if I don't pay it manually, but I like to get everything lined up as early as possible so it makes my YNAB look prettier). Done!
3. List old unloved handbag on eb@y.
4. Order birthday presents for child 2 and child 3.
5. Plan birthday parties so anything needed can be ordered in.
6. Declutter one room - I feel like the clutter in the house is bothering me again, it's been building up over the past few weeks.Done! Going to attempt to get the kids' room done too by the end of the week.
7. Take lots of photos for social media at an event I'm going to on Thursday.[/QUOTE]Trying to figure out a whole new life. Trying to figure out a whole new budget.
Divorcing, unclear on final debt total right now, but focusing on building a financial buffer zone.0 -
Week 4: Day 3
Hurrah, I have a borrowed keyboard! No more squinting at my phone to post.
Did the food shopping yesterday and was so pleased that it came in at only £57.70 - DH and the children are away for the weekend, but I still had to provide for a nice picnic dinner for them on Friday, and bought a big piece of gammon to cook, so I'm feeling really pleased with that. Means that the next three shops can be up to £85 and we'll still come in under budget for the month. It is not an exaggeration to say we have almost halved our food bill since starting this process. I wouldn't necessarily want to eat like this forever, but to give us a kick start for a few months it's great.
Tiny list, as I am out of the house from 8-6 today so not much chance to achieve anything.
To Do today:
1. Social media while working.
2. take packed lunch to where I'm working today
3. work on sock knitting
4. BIGGEST CHALLENGE: resist the lure of the lovely big Waitrose next to where I'm working today.
