Latest report is that fat and extremely underweight people are less likely to be given a job, because interviewers are biased/prejudiced/whatever.

I try not to judge people on my first impressions of them- but I always fail, so when we see a lipring ona young guy, or a man's name tattooeds on a woman's arm no matter how hard I try, I form an impression.Yes, it's prejudiced, but I think it's part of the human instinct to work out whether that fellow human is from the same tribe as me, or not, as the case may be!

In which post have I expressed my personal opinion?

You appear unable to support your argument with reference to any peer reviewed published evidence.

You appear not to able to appreciate the fact at no point have I expressed a personal opinion.

I've simply related evidence from other respected sources of information.

My own feeling is that if you're going to sport a single tattoo, have it somewhere hidden, at least you don't have to spend half your life trying to hide something you wish you'd never had!

That's me. Had a small one done at 35, top of my thigh, so it rarely gets seen, if ever. It is personal to me and I love it and it won't matter how old I get. Glad I did it. :)

    .

By using an obvious extreme (the fully tatooed head of a man) as an example as you did - that is an opinion is it not? Or merely disingenious?

By presenting stats - which indicate trends not truths, as facts - that is expressing an opinion is it not? I didn't see an

Is English your second language? Or do you just feel more comfortable with numbers?

A total of 242 employers were surveyed over the telephone to assess their attitudes toward prospective employees with visible tattooing. Employers were divided into eight categories according to type of industry

So 30 or so from each industry - not exactly a big enough sample is it Ted?, Hardly reliable peer reviewed evidence.

Many thanks to all who replied (with one or two exceptions, which weren't at all helpful- you know who you are  ).

I've come this far through life without the need to "express myself" with body art and I've never been a keen following of fads and fashions, so I don't think I'll bother.

I was brought up to believe all actions had consequences and have always lived by that.

In respect to others though, it IS purely a matter of choice. A lot of people DO get them for a spiritual reason, some have them to be fashionable and later regret their actions.

Some tattoos will be more tasteful than others......

Dont make your mind up from other peoples views, If you want one have it done.

My wife in her 40s had has a couple done in the last couple of years, on her lower back and her shoulder both can be covered if need be.

I know I'm a little late coming into this, but can I ask Stamford et al, what is it about the subject of tattoos that makes you so rude?

Ok, you don't like them, we sorta got the point, but why do you all constantly feel that you can't just say no, I don't like them...you have to refer to 'slag tags' or 'tramp stamps' or indeed; 'chavs'?

    Thank you.

I think before people take any decisions they need to see recent evidence that supports/or informs that decision.

Each decision we make can influence our future physical and mental health as well as our financial wellbeing.

We are not allowed to give medical advice on this forum and as you will have seen from previous links of mine encouraging people to have tattoos can have adverse health implications so should not be encouraged in a forum where medical advice is NOT permitted. It seems strange to me that if I encourage people to take Vitamin d to lower their cancer risk the post is likely to be deleted whereas posts which may result in people becoming MRSA carriers are permitted.

By providing links to peer reviewed published research based INFORMATION people can make evidence based decisions.
