Would you get a tattoo?

If you were aged between 45 and 50?

Female and no piercings other than a single hole in either ear...

....and could get it done free by an experienced tattoo artist?

    Yes please!
I know exactly what I want & where.....& for those sniggering at the back, it would be on the top of my arm!
I'm hoping the offspring might club together & pay for me to get it done for my birthday.....

  • I've got a secret yearning for one like Anastacia's round my navel but I'm not brave enough and I don't have a taut tum like hers either :o :rotfl: :rotfl:

  • I had my first done when I was 43. It's quite large and in the centre of my upper shoulders. I would love another on my foot.

Think carefully about what you would like and where you would like it - but go for it!!!!

If you want it - go for it!

Got my navel pierced aged 38 (7 years ago) and just love it. I'm lucky in that I've got a really tight tum (despite two children* - brag brag brag) but I'm very conservative in the way I dress. So just love seeing people's shock when they sometimes spot the diamantes glittering!

Not sure I've got the bravery to go for a tattoo myself - but if I did, and had a design in mind, I certainly would!

*did think said children would be impressed but their reaction was "yuk"!
  • Not for me :o (but that's my personal choice), but there is some truly beautiful body art out there. Somewhere in the archives there is a thread with lots of photos of MSE'ers tattoos.

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.

In a few years time, someone is going to make an absolute fortune by setting up a chain of tattoo removal clinics.

At present, the only reliable way to do it is via skin grafts, or loads of very expensive laser sessions.

Can you imagine all these slim young ladies with lower back tattoos in 20-30 yrs time, after a few kids???

    It'll be like Dahli's melting clocks!!!! :D
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I don't much like them myself and wouldn't, but it's down to personal taste. Is your taste going to be the same in 20 years?

I'm 40 and have 5. This is my latest one had it done for my father who died 3 years ago. It's done the side of my leg. Ensure your tattoo has meaning though and not just random picture.

The bird signifies a free spirit (as my dad is now), and the word "father" is inserted between the tail feathers.

  • I can see more cons than pros if I'm truthful!

As toothsmith says, what looks good in your 20's is often not appropriate in later life. I like to see young men with tribal artwork on their arms but how will it look when they reach their 50's or 60's?

My own feeling is that if you're going to sport a single tattoo, have it somewhere hidden, at least you don't have to spend half your life trying to hide something you wish you'd never had!

The design I like (but in reality will most probably never have!! ) would be the sun around my navel (I am a "sun" sign after all) so in that sense has lifelong meaning. However I don't want to watch my sun setting........
