I agree 100% with checking out the tattoo parlour before getting anything done. One of my offspring is very into his 'tatts', & always has been, so for his 18th I paid for his first at the most reputable studio at that time.
Unfortunately the artist has since retired or I would have had my tatt done by now.

but who's gonna care when you're in 60's???? You're hardly going to be prancing around in cropped t-shirts and hotpants!

Well i`m 55 and my sister is 50 this year and we`ve both decided to have a tattoo.Just to pick the right design for me now, sister wants a small flower or bird on top of her shoulder.Me, i fancy something on my wrist.

Something like this on the forehead would be worth the pair of you considering :D

    Yes please!
I know exactly what I want & where.....& for those sniggering at the back, it would be on the top of my arm!
I'm hoping the offspring might club together & pay for me to get it done for my birthday.....

Hell yes! Im having the entire of my back done in November! Im 27 though. There was an 80yr old having one on Miami Ink a short while ago....:T My theory is that the body is only a shell, I decorate my home and my body in other ways so why not go for art - yes, a tattoo is permenant buts its not as if you are having something that is on display 24/7.

My thoughts exactly. I have absolutely no qualms about what a tattoo is going to look like when Im old. It will give the 'kids' something to talk about in the nursing home anyway!

As for its association with other high risk behaviours, that may be true in some cases, but I know a heck of a lot of successful, 'normal' individuals who have tattoo's and not as a symbol of a reckless youth etc. It has become mainstream and therefore has lost many of its connotations with antisocial behaviour etc.

I'd not have a tattoo as they're just not for me, but if you want one then go for it!
I spent years saying I'd get my tummy button pierced "when I lose enough weight". Last year I decided that I'd stop putting it off, but because I still wouldn't be happy showing my tummy, I had one of my nipples done! I wear my nipple ring with pride, and love the fact that on the outside I probably look quite conservative, I know that there's still some of the teenage rebel on the inside!

I am 50 & have always had a hankering for a one but logically I cant think why. My taste will change & what I think looks good now I will have gone off in a year or so.
My young friend had one of those "celtic" looking things done on the small of her back. Now it looks old hat & boring, loads of people have got one but she's stuck with it.
Fashion changes quickly but tattoos cant be discarded as easily as last years outfits.
If you stop & think about what tattoo you may have had done 10 years ago, would you still be happy with it today?

My own feeling is that if you're going to sport a single tattoo, have it somewhere hidden, at least you don't have to spend half your life trying to hide something you wish you'd never had!

I agree with this,I have a tattoo that I had done when I was 19 just before getting married. I wanted it on my arm but was worried that if I had it too low would show if too low for sleeves to cover. To prevent this I had mine quite high up, in fact so high up that the place I used to work at was there for 2 years and both summers were told they liked my 'new' tattoo because they hadn't seen it before?:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Again if it's placed right and is the right design that won't 'date' then you should be fine and won't regret it in a few years time. I have had mine for 10years now and don't regret it at all.

I saw that, what a gracious old lady she was too. I loved the look on Ami's face when she told him if he wanted to stay lookin good (like her)he had too give up sugar salt and meat.
    Tasteful tatt too.
