Perhaps you would like to trawl through the research to find some you prefer?

Hi new to this and have read all your post and personally i think if you want one and you have thought long and hard about get it done, obviously your not going to go and get your face ot head done, but tattoo's now are socially acceptable.
I like them i'm 27 and had mine done 7 years ago on the bottom of my back and you can only see it if i wear really hipster trousers and short top which i never do or a bikini on my hols.

just one problem they do hurt a little but its worth it xx:rotfl:
  • Dont make your mind up from other peoples views, If you want one have it done.

Here here! I'm 28 & have 2 tattoos, the first i had done on my 22nd birthday with my mum (aged 45) sat next to me having her first one done. She now has about 8 & loves them & wishes she had them done years ago. She is also a school governor & a grandmother to 4.

No matter what decision you are trying to make in life there will always be people who disagree with it so if you really want one go for it.

  • I think before people take any decisions they need to see recent evidence that supports/or informs that decision.

Each decision we make can influence our future physical and mental health as well as our financial wellbeing.

We are not allowed to give medical advice on this forum and as you will have seen from previous links of mine encouraging people to have tattoos can have adverse health implications so should not be encouraged in a forum where medical advice is NOT permitted. It seems strange to me that if I encourage people to take Vitamin d to lower their cancer risk the post is likely to be deleted whereas posts which may result in people becoming MRSA carriers are permitted.

By providing links to peer reviewed published research based INFORMATION people can make evidence based decisions.

I agree with your point about people seeing evidence, it's just i would prefer there was more than one piece of evidence. I wouldn't say a 12 year old study from a childrens hosptial in Australia is particularly recent, or informed as i know very few children with tattoos.

The people posting in this thread are talking about their experiences of tatoos and giving their opinions, it is nothing to do with medical advice.

The original poster was looking for people to share these experiences, surely the people who are happy with their tattoos are providing evidence?

I find it unusual that a person can put so much faith into one small study on a subject that they probably have no experience of themselves.

Conspicuous, mine are relatively understated a 1/2 sleeved shirt covers all my ink, my piercings are all under cover exept one ear, some fields, well not everyone is going to be a banker or doctor for example, I work in administration for example, some of my friends work in retail, some in health care, construction, security and some are self employed consultants in IT. Another works as a call centre manager in the banking sector. You are skewing the findings for your own ends, please stop it it does you no credit.

same here i have 26, apart from 2 small ones that are on my ankle, the rest are covered by a short sleeve shirt, Im not ashamed of them, as they were my choice to have them done, and the way i think if people dont like them, they dont have to look. x
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Well I'm still waiting to read your links to published evidence supporting.

Everything you have posted is out of date or nonsense
surveys. Nothing really relevant to modern UK society, Children with home done needle tattoos from an Aussie hospital 11 years ago, American surveys etc. Bring something relevant to the table and I will happily discuss it, and don't pass off tiny little surveys with no control groups or checks as peer reviewed research - some people would call that lying, I think you possibly even believe some of the tripe you come out with.

Also in the real world we get to make decisions based on personal judgment and experience, complete human beings do not need to scour the internet to decide about other people.

  • Light-induced mutagenicity in Salmonella TA102 and genotoxicity/cytotoxicity in human T-cells by 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine: a chemical used in the manufacture of dyes and pigments and in tattoo inks.

DCB, 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine, is used primarily as an intermediate in the manufacture of diarylide yellow or azo red pigments for printing ink, textile, paint, and plastics. It is also used in tattoo inks.............................................................Therefore, persons exposed to DCB through environmental contamination or through tattoo piercing using DCB-containing inks must not only concern about its toxicity without exposing to light, but also its phototoxicity.

Is that more up to date for your taste?

I'm still waiting for some peer reviewed evidence of the health benefits that accrue to those with tattoos?
Funny isn't it how all the research appears to be negative.

Just because a lot of people do something does not mean it is safe, healthy or sensible. I expect we all also know people who smoke and maybe some who take drugs and some who binge drink. I just post on these forums to try to show people how they can reduce their cancer/chronic illness risks.

The idea that people knowingly subject themselves to unnecessary potential cancer risks is totally against common sense.
