Eeeek....police?

Hi All,
Please don't judge - I've now totally learnt my lesson after an incident this morning that I'm really worried about. I commute 100 miles a day and this morning the M69 had come to a standstill I stupidly picked up my phone to check the sat nav to see what the issue/hold up was i.e. live traffic update...could see in the corner of my eye somebody staring at me...looked over and a man in a big 4X4 was gesticulating angrily at me. I panicked...and after a short period of time managed to get over to exit the motorway to get to where I needed to be...and dropped my phone out of my hand. I am worried he was an off-duty police officer and even more worried that he was beckoning me to pull over. Would he have put his lights on if he were going to do this and can he, if he was off-duty, report me back at the ranch?
Very anxious - I get really worked up about such things and won't do it again. Am I worrying for nothing?
Sorry for the irrational post but I have been on edge ever since, I have no criminal record and 3 points on my license, with the new laws coming in, I'm worried my license will get taken away from me!:o:(

a police officer would use blue lights and siren to get you to pull over - never heard of them using an "angry gesture" as a way of directing traffic!

If it had been police, he would have pulled you over and issued you with a penalty notice on the spot.

The six point/£200 FPN only applies to offences on or after 1st March - until then, it's 3pt/£100.

If you already have three points, though, and your first test pass was less than two years ago, then another 3pts would put you to licence revocation, and you'd be back on L plates.

Remember - knowing why the traffic's stationary doesn't make it move any faster. LEAVE THE PHONE ALONE.

Get a hands free device and mount the phone on the dashboard or windscreen.

It will cost far less than 1% of your motoring costs and will probably save you a hefty fine and points on or loss of your licence.

Should have put a finger up at the guy.
And get a cradle for it. You can then use it legally whilst sat stationary in future.

Sounds like somebody taking the law in to their own hands rather than a police officer
  • I was behind someone a few days ago on the M6, in the seemingly permanent roadworks and 50mph average speed zone, north of Sandbach services. He had a phone mounted to the right of the windscreen and was continuously "playing" with the screen right handed then amazingly started drinking from a large cup with his left hand at the same time!
Where are the damn traffic police to enforce stupidity?

    Shouldn't they enforce 'anti-stupidity'?
