Tesco selling food past its used by date by over 10 days

How does that work?My local Tesco maybe has different a software to others but if you scan something that's out of date the toll won't let it go through.
The barcode on items doesn't normally change with differing batches of goods because if it did, it would mean that the entire computer system would need reprogramming every time there was a new delivery.
I've got a cupboard full of items (some in date and some past their sell by or use by dates) and for the same items, the barcodes are identical irrespective of the dates printed on the items.0
