Rum rat I am not advertising any website. I have signed up for kahuti but I honestly couldn't recommend it yet as I haven't spent enough time on it to work out how to use it! I'm just looking for something to replace Streetlife.0

Like many of you was horrified by the privacy issues on Nextdoor & the censorship that is taking place on Streetlife now they have taken control to stop anyone complaining that what they are doing is wrong for the UK.
So in our area of the world I have gone ahead and set up a free forum with full privacy control so our neighbourhood doesn't lose touch with each other.
We are 200 strong already and growing so if your near us check out the site at mystreetlink or send me a message for the link 👍
Thank you 😊0 -
Just joined here.
I was just searching for others that were really annoyed at the way Streelife sold out to Next door.
I was a member of Nextdoor for approx 5 minutes, disgusted seeing my full name and address showing, had I known that I would never have joined, searching quickly I found I could only take out my house number.
I loved Streetlife, I joined this Kahuti only to find there is no other members in my area, wouldn't mind being able to see all members wherever they live.
moan over. ☺️0 -
There was a post today on my local streetlife encouraging people to come on over to Nextdoor. I replied about missing streetlife - my area had over 2300 members - and mentioned about how I had already signed up to Kahuti and mylocalforum - I'll let everyone here if it gets censored!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0

RumRat wrotePointless moving to anything.......as soon as it gets enough members Nextdoor will make it another acquisition target and you'll be back to square one.0

It seems ironic that "in the interests of privacy" (so we are told by Nextdoor) we are required to give our full address & other details and these, it seems, are shown to all. That may be privacy as known in the US but it doesn't sit well in the UK. And to those who say it would be easy to find out people's addresses anyway, I would say not so. I gave Streetlife the areas I was interested in (more than one area on Streetlife, again not so on Nextdoor, as I understand it) and my first name with an initial. I don't think that is tantamount to announcing my address. Plus I don't want to be confined to a small area. West London is good enough for me, whether it be Shepherds Bush or Battersea. Streetlife was wonderful and I shall miss it but I don't think Nextdoor has any understanding of London/the UK whatsoever and I won't be going there.0

An alternative just starting up in very embryonic phase is: mystreetlink. I'm not allowed to post the full address but you'll find it on google. In time it might be a good replacement to Streetlife for west Londoners & Surreysiders.0

Kahuti.com recommended as a fabulous alternative that could be even better than Streetlife. Like a sweetshop you can pick and choose what you want from it.
I am in North London and like others we have also lost a fantastic active community asset in Streetlife. There are various Facebook and small websites springing up all over the UK to try and plug that gap, but unfortunately without a lot of the facilities that we all enjoyed, and I am sure some will agree not everyone is keen on Facebook. I have also tried Streetbank and myStreetlink, and yes they serve a purpose but not some of the benefits
As soon on this forum a number of us throughout the UK have very recently found a new site Kahuti. It was set up specifically at the request of several Streetlife members and the results are incredible. Because of the speed of the set up it is not yet fully polished but the possibilities are endless. It feels like you are part of a new adventure whilst also catching up with former SL friends and also making new friends further afield.
Key points.
- People choose a name to display, and disclosing an area/ town is optional. Privacy is a key principle.
- Includes the facility to Private Message and add people as friends. There are also plans to enable people to set up Groups if needed.
- Categories to post under, and plans for an events calendar.
- There are also lots of other features being added, mainly as a result of the owners being very open about receiving comments/ feedback and then working hard to enable things to happen.
- A feedback button at the bottom of the page invite feedback and a navigation button at the bottom of posts lists all the work in progress.

[rant ]this thread is developing as a marketing exercise. !!!!!! why don't people get out and meet faces and names, swap phone numbers, email addresses and get a real life. This a Techie Forum isn't it ?
If you don't want your details spread about don't sign up, oh and I can't wait until people come on here and ask "My (insert name) account has been hacked" or "(insert name) has been hacked and 500 million users details have been compromised"[/rant]🍺 😎 Still grumpy, and No, Cloudflare I am NOT a robot 🤖BUT my responses are now out of my control they are posted via ChatGPT or the latest AI0 -

In my case because I'm mostly housebound. I do get out for small trips but I'm not well enough to socialise regularly. Being able to use sites like Freegle and Streetlife are a real help to me.0
