In my case because I'm mostly housebound. I do get out for small trips but I'm not well enough to socialise regularly. Being able to use sites like Freegle and Streetlife are a real help to me.
Not aiming my rant at you, and I can sympathise, the rant is aimed at the fact that this thread is not particularly in the right place and it appears to be promoting other sites. I hope you don't take it personally and wish you well:o

As soon on this forum a number of us throughout the UK have very recently found a new site Kahuti. It was set up specifically at the request of several Streetlife members and the results are incredible.

Set up at the request of Streetlife members - Really?
A quick domain search tells us the website/domain kahuti.com was first registered on the 14 July 2016.
It is owned by ADR Data Recovery Inc of Somerset City in California, USA.

Does anyone here use either of these websites? I've been a Streetlife member before and have now been asked to migrate my account to Nextdoor, but this seems to be poorly set up in privacy terms as you have to have a full name and your street name on your profile.

    I do not blame you.

The internet is a PUBLISHING PLATFORM, everything you do can be searched and indexed, grabbed by bots if not secure.

Even then there is failure of internal systems so security settings get forgotton, share/don't share

Even then there are hackers, ask eBay and TalkTalk!!

Why even use your real first name. use Lastpass to create different identity profiles and use it to login /remember passwords.

I do not know what these sites do but I do not want to, I remember something coming through the door and going in the bin.
Please be nice to all MoneySavers. That’s the forum motto. Remember, the prime aim is to help provide info and resources. If you don’t like someone, their situation, their question or feel they’re intruding on ‘your board’ then please bite the bullet and think of the bigger issue.:)

[rant ]this thread is developing as a marketing exercise. !!!!!! why don't people get out and meet faces and names, swap phone numbers, email addresses and get a real life. This a Techie Forum isn't it ?
If you don't want your details spread about don't sign up, oh and I can't wait until people come on here and ask "My (insert name) account has been hacked" or "(insert name) has been hacked and 500 million users details have been compromised"[/rant]

  • Apologies UXB. What I meant to say was Kahuti was launched in the UK specifically at the request of Uk Streetlife members. You are absolutely right about when and where it was formed outside of UK.

Perhaps those who are not interested in Streetlife replacements could just not read this thread?

Streetlife was a very successful/useful/popular/much loved community social medium, which was sadly closed down at very short notice, leaving affected communities struggling to find an alternative before they are all scattered.

I think this is the reason several first time posters are here trying to spread the word about Kahuti (and other Streetlife alternatives). (When you Google Streetlife alternatives, this thread is first on the list.)

NextDoor doesn't really seem to work as a straight substitute for Streetlife as the ND local areas are much smaller and therefore do not include many of those in the Streetlife communities.

This is not to say that Nextdoor can't fulfill a useful community role in the UK - it seems to have plenty of potential and I'm planning to continue on ND - but it is not a Streetlife replacement.

Anyone trying to maintain their Streetlife communities are racing against time to publicise alternatives so people have a choice of where to go next.

PS The Kahuti website is: https://www.kahuti.com

If you do decide to move from Nextdoor to Kahuti (or another alternative), it would be a good idea to post about it on Nextdoor so others in your area can also check out the alternative(s). Getting a critical mass of people on local social media is (ahem) critical....
  • I'm wanting to change the boundary on my neighbourhood to make it bigger, but I have to wait 21 days before I get the right to change it which happens to be tomorrow. Wanted to do it sooner but Nextdoor is ignoring my messages for support which Jennifer their bot recommends I do in the automated emails.

Well I've just been sent this email from bot Jennifer :mad::eek::eek::mad::mad:
    Hi,

Great news! The 'street' pilot has 3 verified members and is on its way to becoming a permanent website. You still need 7 more verified members to officially launch. To help you get there, we have extended your pilot for another 21 days.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if there's anything we can do to help launch your street.
    Best,
    The Nextdoor Team

I have let you know but you're ignoring me :( I'll help myself by deactivating my account.
  • There is now a permanent UK based alternative site to the american Nextdoor or Kahuti.
Go to mystreetlink .com and check us out.
Members have full privacy and we now have national coverage.
We are trying to keep the spirit of the old Streetlife alive so come and say hi to some real neighbours :j
