I have recently been sent a lot of high-end products to review and have been really surprised by how meh so many of them are. I used an £18 hand cream that left my hands in worse condition than my usual Aveeno one. I had a £20 shower gel that was horrible and had an ingredients list almost identical to the £3 shower gel in my cupboard. The problem is it can be hard to find reviews by people who aren't sponsored and aren't influenced by brand names and packaging. I used to watch a lot of YouTube beauty gurus, but so many of them have clearly made their mind up about a product before they even open it because it is a cool brand. I remember years ago there used to be a TV show where they got ordinary women to review products, but they would decant them into plain containers first. It was interesting and I remember some of the women being gobsmacked when the product they didn't like came from a brand they usually rave about.

Amen to this. I liked a £16 mascara but the £6 mascara and its remarkably similar brush were just as good. I had two quite meh tubes of £15 for 30 ml handcream. At least with our reviews we can be as honest as we like and not worry that we are biting the hand that feeds us. The £150 for 8ml eye serum I had a while back was spectacularly unimpressive.

The one luxury brand that has really, really impressed me is Murad. I wish I could afford their moisturiser - one to buy if I get a little windfall.

I am loving using my Murad face wash and it's so economical. I may well blow £25 on another tube of this when it runs out.

  • mcculloch - I'm intrigued as to which £16 and £6 mascara you are referring to? I'm nearly running out of my current!

I'm still using up my stash and reading this thread when I can but a bit all over the place at the moment so not keeping track of my UU.

    UU
    Avon Premium De Luxe Parfum
    Avon Skin So Soft Oil
Superdrug B Gycolic Cleansing Peel (gave to my brother)

    IN
Dr Organic Mineral Bio Plasma Mud Mask

I have been told that Estee Lauder are having problems sourcing materiials to make Ojon from the Rain Forest hence the reasons you do not see it in Boots or John Lewis so decided to stockpile.

Ojon was originally sold on QVC prior to the EL buyout. On QVC they used to show video footage of Dennis, the founder, in the jungle looking very Indiana Jones.

    Happy to help!

This is the £6 Maybelline mascara , (it's gone up to £8 now, since I wrote the review.)

This is the £16 puer Triple Threat mascara, (which is still £16.)

Thanks for this Val - one to cross off my list. Very tempted by some Sunday Riley products at the moment and Space NK have £15 off online at the moment when you spend £60 (apologies if this enables anyone) :o:o:o

Has anyone used any of the Sunday Riley products?

Luna oil it is ok i find it leaves my skin looking a little blue and have to wash the face asap in the morning. I am not reaching for it and it lingers there (eighty five dollars that i could have used to buy a handbag). I have not been inspired to open good genes. Ask for a sample as the smell is in some peoples opinion a deal breaker.

If you want a retinol get a private rx for retinol fro your gp as the concentration is higher and cheaper in retin A. I am loving the serum from Poland much more and it is so much cheaper. If you want a serum for crazy money that really does the business look at sisley or guerlain, in my opinion.
