Thank you all for taking the time and energy to give me a little pep talk.

Not quite the two year anniversary yet mothernerd but it is 10 years since my gran died. She meant the world to me and still does, so I'm a little distracted.

Abundant I don't really do holidays either but my parents love them and insist it's good for me to get away. It's a family holiday and I'm only going because my dad insists on paying for our flights and accommodation as long as we pay for meals out. It's a lovely gesture and I do appreciate it but I could have done without the expense. Plus for me I need to pay for animal care for four animals. Luckily a friend is coming to stay and I'm paying her half what the kennels/cattery charge but that's still several hundred pounds!

I do want to save for an emergency fund but since being single and paying 100% of all bills/mortgage etc and the four pets, what I have at the end of the month often gets taken up for immediate needs (like the vets) and I can't get ahead and save. I could think about putting the bathroom off for a few more months but I want it so much, I've had 7 years of no bath. I think I might just need to face the fact that I won't save fully for the bathroom beforehand and will need a small bridging loan for a few months.

Thanks again for all your support :)

Ahoy shipmates. everyone is doing great and we are almost through Feb. Had a nice "Unexpected" family day today........first to arrive was my Gd.......( daughter is a wedding planner so I looked after gd while he mum was working on a wedding) love every inch of her . she came in her onsie , and said she was having bath & breakfast with us !! Boiled eggs and soldiers......... next to come was our Nephew,,,,,,,,he only wanted a cuppa, Dad walked in ......cheese on toast for him ... DD had cheese & mushroom omelette when she got back (Talk about loaves and fishes) then DS phoned to say he was taking the kids out somewhwere nice in the afternoon and did I want to go with them . all unexpected and made for a really nice day. we walked around a local tourist place ,stopped for chips and ice cream ( A NSD for me as id budgeted for kids treats) I stuck to the diet and didn't have any ,,,,,,,,,incidentally I WAS borderline diabetic, and after sticking to a controlled diet , (Off the choccy) had a glucose test yesterday and am now well within a healthy range, yay. so NSP10........... on plan diet wise day 10 and exercise( Walking) 10 ...............full house........ still a couple of days to add a couple more,,,,,,done better this month than any other with you lot helping to motivate me , DH was at the hospital yesterday and test results showed it wasn't as bad as we first suspected and the medication is getting him better.. still under the hospital . but only every 3 months now ,and he feels great so all is good

3 things to be grateful for

that my big"Kids" still like to come home
that my house is strong in all these big winds
that me and DH have our health .
  • Great that your husband is getting better Moll and that your blood sugar levels have improved. So nice to see the reward for the hard work of sticking to the diet.

Sorry to those with poorly little ones, hope they are on the mend.

Thanks raphael for reminding me about the library books online, used to use them but not recently and remember there was loads of choice there.

Fingers crossed for NSD here today. Need to look at budget for March as have just found a few extra expenses that need to be covered. Oh well at least I had a bit of wiggle room before so will manage. And more rugby!!

Fmess - are you marking for the exam board this year? Will that help with an emergency fund? Or paying for the bathroom?

    Hi apple

Apparently I've got two exam marking contracts and one moderating contract (not seem any paperwork yet) and that'll be ear marked for the bathroom as it should all be over and paid by the time the bathroom gets started :)

Thanks for asking, I'm probably panicking over nothing but spending just feels out of control at the moment.

  • Glad your hubby's getting better Moll

When my little bro first started teaching he volunteered for loads of extra work supervising after school revision, he thought it was voluntary and just wanted to make a good impression - was very nicely surprised when he saw his wage that month :)

I'd forgotten my child benefit hadn't gone in this month so that's a nice surprise extra bit of money left in the account this month. Think I'll leave it in there in case the mot on the 8th throws up any nasty surprises ( it shouldn't, the car's only 3 years old) I'll chuck it on the cc after that if not needed.

Most of our local librarys have closed :( The nearest one's in the city centre which I have to either pay for park & ride or car parking to use, too far to walk. We have a mobile but that's on a Friday morning when I'm either working or taking little man toswimming lessons.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All

Have been at work off and on all weekend so not much time for anything else. All good though. Spent some time talking to OH about how we want to plan the rest of the school breaks this year. We are going to try and get away for two separate weeks to breakup the summer holiday. Nothing fancy!
Tommorow is the start of the new pay cycle for us. Some positive bits like no council tax like many of you. And we are due £100 cashback from switching our bank account.
But I am also facing the dual smack in the face of losing my biggest chunk of income from April and possibly having a huge business rate hike. I can't appeal it till I know what it will be.

So although I'd planned for March to be my DFD I am now uncertain. Most have councelled holding onto money just in case.

Also need to keep on top of the project to sell my big machine which if it comes off would give me much needed funds. So all a bit up in the air.

    Anyway! My gratitude's

    1. A nice half term break including spending nice time at the park today with the family.
    2. Spending time with my in laws this week, and being able to help them like they've helped us.
    3. Being given amazing leftovers from work!
