HELP! Cat scratching new sofa !!!!

Comments

  • I used orange scented leather cleaner at first, which I think helped, as the previous fabric sofa was completely mullered after about a year of 2 cats. My leather sofa is now beyond repair, but it has taken the old g*t nearly ten years of clawing once I leave the house to go shopping to get through the corner of it!
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

My cats ruined my leather suite!

My friend also has 3 cats but her 3 have left he leather suite alone. Mine are indoor cats though so when they have a daft half hour they run and jump on anything, chasing each other - honestly they play tag!

Mine could be so ruined because they were just kittens when we got them though
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!

My leather suite is scratched to bits. Only because of their daft 5 minutes and when they were kittens and couldnt reach to sit on top. They dont purposely scratch it but I am definately going to get a material one as my next suite

We have one cat and a leather suite. We have had no problems. She does somtimes try to claw the under side of the suite but nothing else. She just sits on it quitely. Shes never been interested in it and it was here before she was. I think it depends on your cats personality and preferances. Yours may not like the feel of the leather some cats dont.

Oh god, it's coming on Saturday.

OH says if the cats go near it they are going.

Will have to try and keep them out of the living room.
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D

Hmm your brave you are, let us know how you get on from saturday won't you?;) Please do not have a go at them if/when they do scratch it, it's normal to them and my guess is that if they scratch your current sofa they will your new one.

My new kitten has not scratched any of my furniture because he used the scratching post/cat tree straight away so i'm lucky.

I hope you have patience and a very short fuse :D

Personally I would get rid of the OH and keep the cats.

My daughter was brought sort of like a "thunder tube" for xmas....not sure what its correct name is. It sort of looks like a big old cardboard tube with a coiled piece of wire coming out of one end and makes a noise like thunder when you shake it.

Anyways, have discovered by accident that the cats hate it and won't even go near it when its not making a noise. So every time the cats do something they should not like try and hunt the canary or scatch the furniture I shake the thunder tube and they go running, sometimes I only have to move the thing and they get the message. I think though anything that makes a loud sudden noise would work, I know it works with dogs. Failing that water is always good although one of mine actually likes being sprayed with water!:rotfl:
  • does anyone know how i can get my cat to stop scratching my leather settee?!thanks for any advice.;) xx
