There's no more marks on the suite though:rolleyes:

So, if one of your children happen to mark or scratch the sofa, are you going to get rid of them too????

I'm ready to be shouted at - but here it goes.

We had the same problem a few months ago. The cat which we had looked after for 8 years put her claws in a brand new leather suite. It took me 1 minute to decide what to do (needless to say we don't have her anymore).

The kids have not forgiven me. The wife agreed (under duress). Now we have 2 guinea pigs which live outside. Wife still has regrets but the cat had already ruined one 3 piece suite and it did go to a nice home.

We got two new sofas a couple of years ago but to be honest even if our lot shredded them there is no way we would ever get rid of our cats. Poor cat. I honestly don't understand how ANYBODY could do something so awful. Its only a piece of furniture after all. Poor wife. Poor kids.

If the cat was a kitten then fair enough, but your cat was 8 years old  It wasn't fair on the kids and certainly wasn't on the cat, but then again better the cat gets a new loving home rather then you hate the thing.

The cat was there before your sofa, if you had trained the cat from the beginning to use scratching posts then your new beloved sofa would have been fine.

I agree with the others, I would give up no pet for a man, especially a selfish one :D

At the risk of being flamed and I am usually mild mannered...this forum appears to be for "pet lovers" not you.

I'm smiling, even in the face of damage to my new sofa :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Bless, I had the same problem, 2 new white sofas a year ago, one is scratched to bits even with scratching post nearby, I have noticed that if I spray cat nip on post sofa gets left alone.....

In the end I bought a monster cat tree from ebay and whilst the damage is done they prefer their cat post now

Alternatively, the sticky tape idea is a good one!

Glad your cat has such a lovely owner in you!!

Ever heard the saying 'a dog is for life'? I think this applies to all animals. They are living feeling things. How cruel to rehome an animal for something so insignificant!!!!!!! Sorry but people like you make me sick

Also makes me wonder how he would react if one of his kids spilt orange juice etc on the sofa

Oh well i guess he has remorse :D
  • My new sofa due in under 2 weeks, well that is what is left of the estimate time - think my OH will need more training than the 2 cats :p !

They used to attack christmas tree, found combination of olbas oil, standing the hoover by it and the can of flea spray, (they used to run at the sight of it - thank god for frontline!) kept them away.

But - anyone any tips on stopping them shredding the wallpaper - they have scratching posts in areas they scratch, which they use, then find the wallpaper!!

    Cheers

Please allow me as a male to comment on the above. Disgraceful. You have a responsibility to your pets to care for them to the best of your ability. You cannot say that you even attempted this in the case of your poor cat. You may smirk at the criticism that has come your way you seem rather self satisfied, but you should be aware that your response and attitude are indicative of a view of the world which suggests that really not only should you never have pets but you should consider your attitude to the humans that share your life. How long until they transgress in some way to offend your heightened and delicate sensibilities?
It is interesting what people reveal about themselves when they choose to comment on an "amusing" event; their defences are down and we see them for what they truly are.
Some people might learn from these responses but I imagine you sat on your "lovely" sofa smug and indifferent. Have the life you deserve.

    What have I started

I almost feel sorry for Stebiz .... note I said almost ;)

Sofa is now covered in throws to aid its survival. OH wants to know why we spent a fortune and two days of choosing fabrics to have it covered in scruffy throws ... it is a fair question. One i don't really have an answer too.

We got Lucy another scratching post and sprayed it liberally with catnip. She still luuuurves the sofa We tried sticky tapes and the vet suggested we would be better not using the Pet behave sprays.

Being a canny cat, she never does the damage when we are there so the water pistol method is out.
Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend
