HELP! Cat scratching new sofa !!!!

I'd reserve water sprays for unwanted cats/pigeons in the garden. I'd not use it on one of mine. If you persist in encouraging the behaviour you want them to have and discourage the behaviour you don't, then they get the message eventually

To shout at a cat for scratching is cruel, that comes naturally to them. If you want cats then you have to accept this behaviour and find other ways of trying to stop them. I bought two trees for downstairs and one for upstairs, you can teach even the oldest of cats to use them with a bit of patience and this suggestion about squirting water at them is wicked. It's a wonder your cats haven't left home.
Its a cat for goodness sakes!
If I was giving it a swift kick up the backside then fair enough but squirting it with water is NOT wicked.
and yes ALL my cats love living in my house thankyou and are incredibly well looked after

Try a product from Kleeneze called Scratch no more, brilliant stuff. We inherited an adult cat when our daughter moved and she was wrecking the place, it stopped her in her tracks, also on the carpets, near the doors etcmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I tend to only use a (small) water pistil when the un-holy trinity are being real little a*se holes, but it does get the message across and they DO understand0

I have a HUGE cat tree 3 x 2metres and the cats love it but they still scratch at my sofa. It's really old so it doesnt bother me so much but it will when i get a new one.
When litter training our kitten we used some cat behave spray, You can spray it on carpets/furniture and they really hate the smell. We tried a few varieties, the really cheap ones didn't seem to work very well.
Water is a good idea too, i use it whenever my cats get in the kitchen/on counters or try to open doors, it does deter them but they still do it when im not looking, and as soon as they see me they know they are being naughty and run away and pretend they were not doing anything

I found a cheaper alternative to Sticky Paws, it's called Paws Away (cheapest price on ebay).
Has anyone tried it? Is is ok?

hmm new kitten and leather suite - I am not sure the two mix well to be honest!0

Well, I guess you have to give her a scratching post and pray
But I have two terriers who occasionally decide a rat must be hiding under a leather seat and I have found the leather scratch repair kits do actually work. 0 -
its just as my sister has a leather, and a cat...i have seen first hand the damage!! and the cat has truly ruined my sisters 1000 pound suite, obviously i dont want this to happen to me!!!
i thought i would get lots of toys and a post etc, but without ruining the look of the new sofas..and if there even available what about arm covers for sofas??? do they even exsist?? just an idea, and probably still not kitten/cat proof at that!!!
