Our oil syndicate yesterday had been quoted ‘estimate of 100-120ppl’ and no guaranteed price for the order as is usual, but being charged whatever it is on the day. I have half a tank, so will skip this delivery.3

That's what I did in January @greenbee
It was just under 60ppl then. Mine is showing 98.6ppl for 18th March so the distributer has that oil - showing 165ppl the week after (as he doesn't)
Mum got her notice of increase yesterday - gas up from £1700 (more than that, rounded down) to over £3,100 plus electric. over £1400 increase now, more in October. I suggested she follow their advice and increase her direct debit by £150 now if my Sis and her DH are not swapping her again. She does not understand really but I said if she increases it now, it won't go up by £400 a month in July when they review it.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £2664.85 out of £6000 after March (44.41%)

So 600l of oil ordered for delivery before 4th April (whenever they are in the area).
I believe our choice of supplier has dropped as our one-man band and his wife (or maybe daughter) 2nd generation family firm have retired. I did a quick Companies House check and they both resigned as Directors from 21st November and a competiitor's directors are now showing. The competitor is a bigger operation and was always a tad more expensive. The woman on the phone (was not the usual and) has obviously been briefed to say nothing has changed but when I said the directors had, she said she didn't really know.
I have paid 112ppl but still 15ppl less than the comparison site. I paid 22.9 last time I bought oil, in May 2020. Fuel oil excise duty is 10.7p in the pound. It is almost 58p for diesel yet the prices have been showing as the same for the last month. Definitely profiteering as the only difference is the red markerSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £2664.85 out of £6000 after March (44.41%)

Ug not fun but expensive oil is better than no oil. Most of the suppliers around here have been hoovered up by larger outfits, one place still has 2 names on the gate and will even quote against themselves as its literally the same people answering the phones whether you call C or G- Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted

I wonder why they would think lying to you would make them more appealing to you as a supplier?

It's pretty common in circumstances of a company being bought out like that - it's not designed as "lying" as such, and indeed the member of staff may not even have known deals about Directors etc - it's meant to give a sense of reassurance to regular customers that they can still expect the same service. Nightmare day from hell yesterday.
Pup slipped his lead and ran across main road (not hit by car) DH in hot pursuit he was in slippers (DH, not pup). Lost a slipper before the road, then lost his balance while scooping to grab pup with forward momentum and fell into wrought iron gates opposite, splitting his head open. Holding profusely bleeding head he put other arm up to stop traffic as pup ran back across the road - on 3 legs. Front leg no weight was dislocated or broken (we think with DH hitting the gate that pup was trying to go through) DH managed to grab him before he tried again. I only went upstairs to sort out the laundry.
DH had a surface wound so I sent him upstairs to wash himself and staunch the bleeding. He wrestled out an ood dressing, then went to A&E via the doctor's. As I suspected, "just" a split head they superglued it back together again (did you know this is what it was invented for?).
Meanwhile I held pup - all morning! Rang vets and in light of no DH we agreed I would take him in at 5.10pm. DH was back by 2.30pm. I rang back just after 3pm and explained that as it looked dislocated I had not fed him since 6am in case he needed anaesthetic to reset. The young vet said bring him now.
He's on anti-inflammatory pain relief and it isn't broken, or dislocated now (I think it popped back in yesterday afternoon). He's on rest and limited walking and is hobbling badly but it is going to get better. £60+ gratefully paid, he's back to see the nurse today for his weigh-in, flea, and tick treatment.
I felt utterly emotionally drained. DH felt guilty and had a bit of a headache and pup is very quiet. Nightmare! Could have been so much worse so feeling grateful, relieved, cross and everything all at once reallySave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £2664.85 out of £6000 after March (44.41%)

Oh SL, what a day! I'm not surprised you're feeling drained today - so much there to worry/stress about. But no major damage done by the sound of it (DH's head may disagree!) and £60 for the vet is very reasonable! I hope they both recover well. What an awful day, for all of you! Very glad to hear that there's probably no permanent damage for anyone, but it sounds really traumatic. I hope you can all have a quiet day today, apart from pup's appointment.2023: the year I get to buy a car5

That sounds like a really stressful day.
No wonder that you feel drained.
