This link may help and I am sure someone with better knowledge will be on to give you further help

  • Thank you for the link

what I really want to know is can I leave my job and care for my son?

At the moment my partner is caring for the child, but she is not strong enough as he gets older he needs me to restrain him.

Would my partner have to go to work if I am the full time career?
  • Yes you can. You can claim carers allowance and if no other household income, income support too.

Thanks so that's prob my best bet

I was just reading that link, it seems you can still get CA and be working a little as long as you earn no more than £110 a week (after taxes, )

But I don't think I can carry on in my job, our disabled child requires a lot more care this year than last year, and it's only going to get worse :(

When you do become his carer, ask for a Carer's Assessment for yourself and your wife. That should include an emergency plan for what would happen if you were suddenly unable to provide care such as in a medical emergency.

It's worth checking whether there are any charities like Crossroads Care in your area who provide respite for carers. It can make all the difference to your life knowing that you can have a few hours off now and then without worrying about the person you're caring for.
  • I do earn over £110 per week at the moment, so I earther have to leave my job or I'm considering trying to reduce my hrs to care for him more.

I'm wondering what would be best all round?

If I work less hours, I wouldn't get WTC anymore?

would I be able to get income support then?

Or would it be best to leave altogether?
  • So I'm considering leaving my full time job and looking for a part time job so I can care for my disabled child more.

Can I get jsa while I look for another part time job?

Will I get sanctioned for leaving my job for the reasons of caring for a disabled child?

I already get Dla the highest level, and will apply for careers allowance soon.

Your partner wouldn't have to go to work, but is there any reason why she cannot, if you are the carer?

It works for us - one stay-at-home Dad, one full-time working Mum.
