The govt. will need to find a way to replace all the tax that is lost from petrol/diesel sales, so they will have to implement a new system to compensate before the majority of cars are electric powered.
Probably develop a system around miles traveled and apply the equivalent charge per mile..I..eg in the long term electric cars will not be significantly cheaper to run than petrol or diesel....IMHO
Perhaps the gov could consider taxing cars, road taxing cars by their RRP?  Therefore,  as now, cars costing more than 40 attact extra road tax for a few years even those buying a second hand car. Therefore, those that want to pay for bigger, better cars pay that bit extra and this will give the gov income wheter a person hardly drives the car or not.
That is a phenomenal idea that only a 'seasoned philanthropist' could have come up with and I hope the Government implement it soon!
Perhaps, we the members, some of us could initiate  a campaign for this. I love fairness and my proposal makes sense, if you want a bigger, more expensive, more luxurious car, then if one really wants that brand new or used, then they would be prepared to pay the extra. Cars IMHO re getting to big and two of our cars will hardly fit into some of the parking spaces. It's a pain that and the damage that can ensue from ignorant drivers smashing their car doors into parked cars so I take our little car the vw but no one really likes driving that so we try to go out when it is quiet and to places that have empty spaces and park away from the people in a hurry.
Thank you for complimenting my idea.

Start a campaign!!, Yet again you have come up with another phenomenal idea, you get it started and I am 100% sure other members on here will join in. Let us know as soon as you get the campaign up and running.

I know what you mean about doors being smashed into, you going out when it is quiet and to places that have empty parking spaces is another good idea, If it works then great, what I do is go out when it's really busy and park in only full car parks BUT!! (and here's a great tip for you too) I park that close to other cars that the doors can't be opened, that way NOBODY can smash their doors into my car. I have to get out via the boot but I find it's worth it to avoid the 'ignorant' drivers you talk of causing damage.

    Hi
Many thanks for the kind words and tip.
As per my post you ref to, I will leave the cmapign to another but will join in. FYI, I have emailed my local MP

Re your parking habits, I don't understand how you park right up to peoples cars, the "doors" and able to get out of your car.
other than "boot" when I have told you about an easier solution, EG I will stick to my method which is proven to work for us and park away from ignorant drivers that allow their cars doors to damage other peoples property.

I don't think you should mix electric cars with water or food seasoning.

I think we could also tax people on their income at the point where it gets paid. We could call it wages tax or something like that.

    Brilliant idea!
We could tax people when they earn money, and then we could tax them again if they spend what is left after the "wages tax".
Lets not forget to put in some 'back doors' so those people who really really 'deserve' a high wage can employ other people to help them not be taxed so unfairly compared to the masses :)

Anyone have any opinions on electric cars?

They seem a good idea whilst not many people have them, and Tesco offer 7kw free charging- I could get 20 miles worth every time I do the weekly shop, which is worth about £3 in petrol money.
However even assuming I can get £3 worth every week (because the bays are empty), I suspect I will die before I recover the cost of changing to an electric car!
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Hopefully you will live longer thanks to the air quality improvements.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Though air quality wouldn't typically knock decades off your life expectancy, unless you're a miner, asbestos worker e

Car going, vheiecles going 100% eletric will not really help the global air pollution stakes but it will help the bigger cities. London during lockdown had cleaner air and now its back to normal.
What worries me is though the gov is in denial is the fact we will not have the capacity to charge all eltric cars and eltric prices will shoot up in my jusgment as supply v demand will reuslt in price hikes if supply is hard to get.

Well I can currently charge mine a the equivalent of 1p/mile, relative to petrol/diesel at around 12p/mile.

So even if the cost rose 10x in whatever timeframe you're making your judgements with, it will still be cheaper than ICE.
