The fact EVs now start at around £25k new is great for consumers, and unless you are someone who genuinely need to drive non stop to the Alps in middle of winter than range is not an issue at all.
Demm you, gzoom, my annual holiday is skiing in the Alps and I also sold a few shares (different company) at peak! Not enough for a Tesla though, but ranges of all models are getting better. Not to worry though, we use one of my GF's company vans and can carry a lot more er.. parmesan back with us. :-)

Mind you, an extra day each way is only going to cost a cheap hotel and a nice meal. But the French charger situation is even worse than ours so maybe in a year or two..

@Martyn1981 Don't forget the tow bar option, even if you never plan on towing a caravan the ability to use a tow bar mounted bike carrier is fantastic and an option few other EVs offer at present.

If you have time to take things easy and allow some stops on a 1560km trip in a Tesla traveling across Europe really isn't hard.
This website below lets you plan our trips and is very accurate. If it wasn't for COVID we would be Scotland right now half way through a 1000 mile road trip, and next year we'll do Norway.

Work trips where you have to get from A to B at a certain time is a different matter, but for family trips even trips through France isn't an issue in a Tesla.

We do Portsmouth -Le Havre and back via Caen due to the timings, A6 and hang a left at Macon towards Geneva and the Mt Blanc tunnel. Definitely a two full days job in whatever I might manage to get, but given my bladder stops are necessary anyway, so I might try planning it with a 28kwh Ioniq which has good fast charging.  An interesting exercise anyway.

Hi guys, considering taking my first dip into the EV world. Wondered if anyone had any advice or experience with a Mitsubushi PHEV? They seem very reasonably priced relative to similar competitors.
A bit of background - ATM I have a 2012 mini countryman cooper S, 1.6T petrol which gets me around 35 mpg. I use the car mostly for my 20 mile round trip commute and do aboot 4k miles per year. I understand the PHEV has a battery with range of around 35 miles which would cover the vast majority of my journeys.
Not sure I'm covering all aspects here but l'm thinking I would save around £600 per year on fuel (and taking into account my current road tax of £200 v £0 for the misubushi) by using the battery.
    Look forward to any replies,
    Cheers all 👍🏼😊

So far though under 6p per mile all-in running costs is bonkers cheap.

But it cost you £71k, so the overall cost is hardly "bonkers cheap".
You're largely missing the point. The opportunity cost is high for what is a high end vehicle, and it is "bonkers cheap" compared to an ICE equivalent, like a diesel Audi Q7. You can get much cheaper EV's for similar lower per mile costs.
His £71k Tesla X will almost certainly be cheaper to own over 3 years than your £50k Audi 6.
Really? Are you saying I will spend in excess of £36k - as that is the price difference between the 2 - on fuel/servicing costs over 3 years?

You don't have buy a Tesla. A Leaf/Zoe/Kona etc are all much cheaper, and all will give you the same running cost benefits.

    A £25k Leaf/Zoe/Kona doesn't give you decent range on a single charge - hence why I said
"At present, it costs silly money (>£50k) to buy a electric car with decent range (>400 miles)."

Its a bit like a car dealer offering you a brand new petrol/diesel car with free fuel for life....provided you pay £200k up front. At present, it costs silly money (>£50k) to buy a electric car with decent range (>400 miles). Perhaps in 20+ years time that will totally change but as things stand, EVs are a novelty. I will stick with my Audi A6 diesel for a good few years yet, considering it can do up to 700 miles on a full tank and cost about half the price of your Tesla X (bought brand new)

Wow! A top of the range stranded asset. Just think of the pollution that's going to cause over it's lifetime!
    Wot even a EUR6 diesel? <face palm>

I had one as a company car before I retired, I think you will find 35 miles on electric in real world use is a tad optimistic, my experience says nearer 22-24
But that would have been a 2016 car, maybe its got better since

My commute is 10 rural mile`s each way consisting of one junction and about 9.5 of those miles on 60 mph `A` roads. So even with 22-24, I`d be ok.
To be fair it would be about a 2016 Outlander I`d be going for.
