So far though under 6p per mile all-in running costs is bonkers cheap.

But it cost you £71k, so the overall cost is hardly "bonkers cheap".
You don't have buy a Tesla. A Leaf/Zoe/Kona etc are all much cheaper, and all will give you the same running cost benefits.

But it cost you £71k, so the overall cost is hardly "bonkers cheap". Its a bit like a car dealer offering you a brand new petrol/diesel car with free fuel for life....provided you pay £200k up front.
It's nothing like that...at all....the additional purchase price is going to owning a car. It retains value. Unless in your odd analogy you get some of that £200k back?!

The Tesla is no different to any other car in that it costs money to buy, and it will lose some of that value over time. The important difference therefore the difference in depreciation cost.

I will stick with my Audi A6 diesel for a good few years yet, considering it can do up to 700 miles on a full tank and cost about half the price of your Tesla X (bought brand new)
Well of course....All you are pointing out here is that there are cheaper cars. It has nothing to do with the comparison between ICE and EV! You can get an ICE half the cost of your Audi (...and an EV).

You're missing the obvious difference that the more expensive car (whether that be EV or ICE) are also offering more in terms of performance and tech. Therefore a more sensible comparison would be to something like a S6. The top range model is about £81k and can be had for around £68k. Probably still needs more options to get to the level of tech the Tesla has.

You're largely missing the point. The opportunity cost is high for what is a high end vehicle, and it is "bonkers cheap" compared to an ICE equivalent, like a diesel Audi Q7. You can get much cheaper EV's for similar lower per mile costs.
His £71k Tesla X will almost certainly be cheaper to own over 3 years than your £50k Audi 6.

Hiya.  What are the 'rules' / recommendations when it comes to Tesla servicing, and any regrets going with the marque, as I'm close to pulling the trigger on a TM3 but just triple checking, for the 10th time, before my itchy trigger finger gets the better of me?

At present, it costs silly money (>£50k) to buy a electric car with decent range (>400 miles). Perhaps in 20+ years time that will totally change but as things stand, EVs are a novelty. I will stick with my Audi A6 diesel for a good few years yet, considering it can do up to 700 miles on a full tank and cost about half the price of your Tesla X (bought brand new)

Wow! A top of the range stranded asset. Just think of the pollution that's going to cause over it's lifetime!

There really are no servicing rules to adhere to in regards to either the 4 year 50k dumper to bumper warranty, or for the 8 year battery warranty.

Some owners 'choose' to service the cars but been a money-saving expert I choose to keep the cash in my pocket:).

No regrets at all about Tesla, but it is a bit like taking out the prom queen and all the dramas you associate with that kind of relationship, the girl next door Tesla 100% isn’t. However the highs still far out weigh the loss, and as a longterm keeper am very happy.

If your looking at a top spec 'P' Model 3 it might be worth seeing if Porsche introduces the 'cheaper' RWD only Taycann to the UK. Currently you need about £100k for a decent spec 4S, but rumours are Porsche might be bringing in a cheaper version, and the Audi GT EV should be a cheaper version as well.

If you do order a Tesla get a 'referral' code from someone, this gives you access to some 'free' Supercharger miles.

Once you start looking at these cars though its a slippery slope, you will end up with one :).

Many thanks gzoom. The plan started at a SR+, but has grown to an AWD LR. That's more than enough power to exceed my talents and lose my licence. It makes no financial sense for us, and can't really be justified at all, but having invested in Tesla (and Arcimoto) last Summer as a way to raise a virtual middle finger to all the trolls, shorts and FUD'sters, I now find myself stuck with a bit of extra money and a looming 50th Birthday ..... first World problems huh!

Good call on the Tesla shares!!
Been out for a first proper family road trip since March just now. Forgetting all the rubbish about EVs been green or not, these just make great family cars.

The fact EVs now start at around £25k new is great for consumers, and unless you are someone who genuinely need to drive non stop to the Alps in middle of winter than range is not an issue at all.

Get the 3 ordered already, life is too short to procrastinate!!

I don't procrastinate, I just review things without end.
Had a visit from a local TM3 owner after asking for helping on an owners site. Turns out Tesla owners are really nice and helpful, who'd have thunk! He was able to park it easily in our drive and our awkward 'bit on the side', which we were a tad unsure about. So all that's left is booking a test drive (Bristol), which we couldn't do before as Wales had restrictions on travel, and I've had a two week fever, headache, exhaustion, but to our surprise the C19 test came up negative (drats, hoped to tick that off).
Only thing then is to decide whether to go 'full pimp' with the white interior (no offence). It looks good, what are your thoughts/experience?

Just at it happens I've done my bi-annual car interior cleaning today!
Tesla gets alot of bad press for poor interior 'quality' frankly I have no idea what people base that on. Our car is coming up to 3 years old, 35K miles, and treated/used as a daily hack. The rear seats in particular carried my daughter ever day, its had poo AND wee on it at some stage, we eat in it, we play in it, we never use seat covers or obsess with cleaning up stuff all the time.....

But I think anyone would struggle to moan at how well the interior has lasted, based on current usage I have no worries recommending white interior, even with kids :).

Despite been around since 2016, there still isn't quite another family wagon on the road quite like it!! Reading up reviews is one thing, living and enjoying these cars is quite something else  <3
