Electric cars

More promising news from VW, with hopefully a switch from producing a vast number of EV concept cars, to a vast number of EV cars instead.
Volkswagen Raises EV Sales Target 50%, Says ID Production Will Be Carbon NeutralWe here at CleanTechnica often complain that the German auto industry is issuing lots of press releases filled with happy talk but not accomplishing much in the way of forward progress on electric cars. Volkswagen, at least, seems to have gotten the bit between its teeth and is pulling hard in the right direction. The designs for its proposed ID models are fresh and appealing. It is building a new factory for electric cars in Tennessee and targeting other EV factories in Europe and China.
At a media event in Dresden on February 15, Christian Senger, head of the electric car effort for Volkswagen Group, said his company now expects to produce 15 million electric cars during the first wave of its electric car rollout, according to a report by Bloomberg. That’s a 50% increase over the original production targets it announced when the MEB chassis was first introduced.
Volkswagen also plans to introduce an entry-level electric car that sells for less than $23,000. No doubt it won’t be as flashy as a Tesla Model 3 Performance model, but it could be the opening salvo in the war to bring affordable electric cars to middle- and low-income customers. For the moment, we are inclined to give Volkswagen the benefit of the doubt that it is serious about leading the electric car revolution. That’s something that didn’t seem remotely possible when Dieselgate broke in September of 2015.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

You can keep waiting though, given the state of parliament in a few weeks time we might all end up paying another 5-10% on imported goods like EVs

Boom! Fossil Vehicle Sales Are Officially Now Decreasing In China, Europe, & USA — #CleanTechnica Report
Whilst there has been a slowdown it is more due to the global economic slowdown than a shift to EVs. In the UK for example people are putting off big purchases such as cars and houses due to Brexit. ICE vehicles are still outselling EVs of all flavours by a significant multiplier. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Nissan and Mini electrics. Built in UK.
Going from 0% to 10% tariff on export to the EU.
Jag i-Pace. Built in Austria.
Renault and Smart electrics. Built in France.
Tesla Model S and X. Final assembly in the Netherlands.
BMW and VAG electrics. Built in Germany.
All currently 0% tariff on import to UK.
All going 10% tariff after leave-with-no-deal.
Nobody knows yet what'll happen with stuff imported from the US or the Far East to the EU, then re-exported to the UK - but it's entirely possible that the UK will have to impose tariff on top of the tariff paid on import to the EU. That won't apply to the volume manufacturers, who have direct imports to the UK currently - Kia, Hyundai on Humberside, Mitsubishi at Avonmouth, etc - but Tesla are reportedly planning to import the Model 3 to NL (as they do with the unfinished S/X), then distribute to the destination countries from there.0 -

It'd make sense. But that'd put the tariff onto cars being exported to the rest of Europe, of course...0 -
Capacity from the D5 moving to Slovakia...

No, Discovery moving has freed up space for the new MLA platform with a new FA3 being built and BS2 being ripped out and refurbed.
The extra capacity at Castle Brom is from the XJ finishing. AFAIA the new XJ is going to be electric, so a possible fit for the new MLA to be built at Solihull???0 -

Really? ... you believe that nobody knows ???? ..... :rotfl::rotfl:
There are plenty of instances where goods are imported into the EU before consolidated or simple onward shipping to another third country and there are already well used mechanisms to accommodate this ...
Despite what you may read in the press, this would be exactly what would happen for goods transiting from Ireland to the EU through the UK or from the UK through the EU to a non-EU destination such as Morocco ... Union and Common Transit ... HMRC have plenty of guidance available to cover how to process such movements, for example ... CCGs ... but much depends on how often you'll likely be arranging goods to transit through (EU) countries before reaching their (non-EU) destination ...
Have a read, the subject is really boring but you may come to understand that plenty of people (ie, not nobody!) know how the process works, which would include hundreds (if not thousands!) of people who process such transit shipments on a regular basis.
Nobody? .... :rotfl::rotfl: ... well I suppose that would normally be classified as being more Brexit related 'Project Fear' misinformation delivered (as normal) by the uninformed! ...
 ... unless, of course, you know different & are willing to share your wisdom! ...:shhh:

We already pay 10% on imported EVs from outside of the EU. The UK leaving the EU and setting its own import tariffs we may actually see a reduction in import duty on things like Teslas.
Well Porsche seems ready to pass on any extra costs direct to the customers....

I hope Teslas don't get any more expensive, we do want to buy a second but another 10% price increase would really kill the budget.
