Interesting change in direction from Nikola regarding their hydrogen fuel cell trucks.

The Nicola One was/is to have a 320kWh battery to run alongside the H2 fuel cell, but now they've announced BEV versions of their trucks too. The BEV's will come in 500/750/1,000kWh versions. Also a design for their cab-over Euro version.

Breaking! Nikola Motors Adds Battery Electric Vehicles To Its Lineup

Edit - worth reading the comments, as posters have referred back to claims by Nikola when the Tesla truck was launched. Nikola then challenged the claims of 2kWh/mile, and range, stating that consumption would be more like 3-4kWh/mile and range closer to 125-200 miles. But now they are claiming an almost identical consumption of 2.25kWh/mile. How the story changes!

Also fun to see the Nikola tweet referring to a 1mWh battery, that's really confidence inducing - although to be fair, I had to e-mail Tesla 3 times before they changed the dimensions on their website for the Powerwall, since all three metric and imperial dimensions didn't match - /insert Murican joke here/ - and no, I didn't get a free Powerwall, didn't even get a thank you.

In the US, Tesla account for a majority share of all BEV's, and the increase in EV's last year, was almost entirely as a result of TM3's. A similar boost to European EV numbers is expected this year, thanks to Tesla.

Given that this is an EV thread...

Given that this is a UK forum, I'd like to know the numbers here. Genuine question. A Tesla is a rare sight for me on the roads, and the Model 3 will be until 2020, I guess, too. I see other EVs every day. Being right hand drive here instead of left hand drive certainly slows things down, sure.

For anyone interested, here's a good look at the Sono Sion by Fully Charged, the solar powered BEV (Ok, it's not really solar powered, only kinda, but interesting). I like the fact that it has outlets for standard plugs, and V2G too.

Not the prettiest, but certainly practical. Sadly, they don't know that PV on cars just isn't practical ...... apparently? ;)

As to whether Nissan and Renault added together could match Tesla in 2018 H1, I don't know, but I'm sure if you add enough giant legacy companies together...
Just the ones with comprehensive and long-standing cross-ownership, making them the single largest vehicle manufacturing group in the world, with a single global ZEV strategy - which includes putting a billion dollars over five years into Enevate's fast-charge tech.

Hey, if that's the route you need to go down these days to make you feel better about Tesla's progress, then go for it. Fill your boots.

If you want, you could add all the other companies together for 2018 H1, and then Tesla's 14% would look tiny compared to 'their' 86%.

Anyway's, I'm still sitting and waiting for you to turn your seemingly endless EV wrath upon VW, since on any basis, and using your criteria for negativity, they are 'far worse' than Tesla, so I expect, in the name of fairness, not 10's, but 100's of attack posts from you now.

But the point is Nissan and Renault ARE together, since 1999 (along with Mitsubishi, more recently).

As of January 2018, the Alliance is the world's leading plug-in electric vehicle manufacturer, with global sales since 2010 of over 500,000 electric vehicles, including those manufactured by Mitsubishi, now part of the Alliance. The top selling vehicle of the Alliance EV line-up is the Nissan Leaf all-electric car. The Leaf is also the world's best-selling highway-capable plug-in electric car in history, with more than 300,000 units sold worldwide through January 2018

    Hi

However, combined global sales of 500k units since 2010 only describes the total number of vehicles that may potentially still be on the road ... looking at different timescales may show different results in terms of market share and with the changing market it's not really logical to look at summary data which results from too long a historic period ... compared to the 300k cumulative build of Leaf models mentioned in the link, the TM3 will likely pass this total around the middle of this year despite all of the production issues that are continually raised by the EV naysayers on this thread & elsewhere ...

192k to date, with 86k in Q4? Something'd be going very wrong if they didn't hit 300k by early June at the latest.

Don't forget that 300k figure is as of January 2018, though. "More than 380k" to the start of 2019.

Assuming consistent figures (FY18 for the Leaf, 4 x Q4-18 for the Model 3), they'll be pretty much level by the end of the year, both on around 460k.

As I said to Ade, if that's what it takes to keep you happy then add as many as you like into the Alliance to match Tesla. FUD won't write itself.

So for 2018 we see that Tesla accounted for 11% of PEV sales, with the TM3 accounting for 7% v's the Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe which added together are 6%.

In 2018, Tesla sold almost as many cars as all previous years added together. This year we will see greater sales due to the TM3's ramp up (v's 2018). Then we will have the Chinese gigafactory and TMY coming on line too.

[Timely addendum - Possible production in China this year, but presumably small, and an expected 50% increase in production in 2019 over 2018.]

For an EV thread, it's strange how much effort goes into knocking EV's and especially the leading manufacturer of BEV's, given that the whole world will be shifting to BEV's going forward.

Still, I'm sure there is something in there that you or Ade can use to attack Tesla, if you really must. Or perhaps you would like to help Ade 'lay into' VW, as he seems to be struggling, and balance is of course needed, if FUD claims are to be avoided.
