I suspect that at £33k, it's still far too expensive for the majority of new car buyers. It's relatively cheap for an electric car but the price needs to be slashed by at least a third before it's going to tempt the masses.

I see a lot of £30k cars on the road so I don't think it's that much of a barrier especially with PCPs. Plus it's worth noting that it's £30k now, there will be £10-15k used ones on the market in 3 years - not everyone can or wants to buy new.

I'd love a £10k new family sized EV but being realistic there aren't many family sized cars for £20k new, Dacia Logan maybe?

    So the Hyundai Kona didn't?

Strange, since it's the same car, just with a different set of panels.

Well done. You've noticed my point.

Honestly, I've no idea what your point is, I can rarely keep up. Your point is now that it's actually reasonably priced?

I don't know why the Kona didn't win it, but there can only be 1 winner. Hyundai is pushing up market so it's more expensive?

£10k is probably unrealistic but the petrol Kona starts at £16k. One with a worthwhile spec is 17-18.

No, that it clearly isn't "the first reasonably priced that ticks all the boxes".

Apart from not finding £33k particularly reasonably priced - even for an EV, since it's 50% more than a Zoe - it clearly isn't "the first" for anything, since it's no more than a restyle of the Kona EV.

Meanwhile those of us who own EVs.....Over 1600 miles covered since the 1st of Jan 2019, including return trips from Leicester to Harrogate/Cardiff/London all in far less than ideal conditions.

The Kona/Nero-EV both have MORE real life range than our 75D X, so anyone buying one of those cars really should have no worries about range anxiety!!!

As a demonstration of how good value for money the Kona/Nero-EV are should go and price up a Tesla - Ignore the NEDC range, real life is closer to 270 miles so not much more than a Kona. You don't have to try very hard to get a Model X into 6 figure terriority these days. I hate to think what the pricing will be like post Brexit

But your dash is showing a medium-term average of ~400Wh/mile, or 2.5 miles/kWh, over the last 1,700 miles. With a 75kWh battery, that's just under 190 mile range...?

Even your short-term 40 mile average of 317Wh/mile is 236 mile range.

(Why does it say "Kia" on the display, btw?)

Because our car is a 75D which has a NEDC rating of 257 miles not the 351 miles of the 100D. Real life range is roughly 200 miles at 70mph which suits our needs. Overall average figures are mainly because of my 10 mile commute to work which due to traffic can see consumption as high as nearly 1 mile per kWh especially when heating the car from cold. But city centre commuter consumption is academic as the distance is so low and speed so slow it would take 10hrs+ to drain the battery.

The iPace/E Tron/Merc EQC all have similar range as our 75D X,, you can get the 100D X which adds about 30-40 miles of real life range if you have 6 figures spare to spend on a car :).

That doesn't change the fact the Kona/Nero-EV are fantastic value for money EVs, and have MORE range than all the cars mentioned above for half the price!!

....oh we named our car 'Kia' because I like Kia, who knows one day I might actually have a proper Kia on the driveway :rotfl:

First reasonably priced family car. It's 50% more than a Zoe, it a Zoe is a small car with about half the range. It's a decent little car (I'd have one as a 2nd car) but it's no family car.

It's essentially the same as a Kona, sure, but what's the problem with that? Do you want the Kona to be the car of the year?

Article looking at the tipping point of EV's, and again suggesting that 2018 was probably 'peak ICE'.

Electric Car Tipping Point Is At Hand

And a fun article showing how the news about Tesla's fantastic 2018 can be painted black.

And for anyone wanting a very quick/brief run through of Tesla's 2018, here's a great vid from Ben Sullins a data analyst.

Tesla 2018 Results and 2019 Outlook
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Ah, the 270 you gave was for a 100, rather than your 75? Sorry, I mis-read. Yes, that'd be consistent with your 1,700 mile average.

It'd put the real range at about 3/4 of the NEDC.
