I know folk on here expect sales of petrol/diesel only cars to collapse way before 2040, but nice to see that some MP's are pushing for a legislative change.

MPs call for ban on petrol and diesel car sales by 2032
UK risks falling behind global switch to electric vehicles with ‘unambitious’ target of 2040, says committee

MPs have urged ministers to bring forward their ban on new petrol and diesel car sales by eight years to 2032, to avoid the UK being left “in the passenger seat” in the global switch to electric vehicles.

Government plans for a 2040 ban on fossil fuel-powered cars and vans across Britain were unambitious and did not even show leadership within the UK, given Scotland has set itself an earlier target, the business, energy and industrial strategy committee said.

The group said that although the UK was a world leader on electric cars, ranked fourth globally in sales last year, that status was at risk due to the government being too vague on its targets.

Article on the depreciation (or appreciation) of EV's. Not just Tesla (scroll down for Europe).

Obviously this will change as supply grows bigger, but shows that demand is stronger than the percentage of sales would suggest.

Prices For New Tesla Model 3 & Other Popular EVs Lower Than Used Prices

Depreciation on EVs looks shattering at the moment.
    E.g 2014 Nissan Leaf £7000.

So is the fact that Drive Green's listing on that Leaf doesn't breathe a mention that the battery doesn't come in the purchase price, but is a rented item, a breach of trades descriptions?

It does say 'Warranty: This Nissan Leaf is still covered by the original Nissan 5 year battery warranty' though. Bemusing.

I might be wrong actually, I was thinking of another car (which one escapes me).

This one is a 3.5 year old car with 154,000 miles on the clock (44k/year is pretty high, taxi?). I suspect you'd see similar pricing on an equivalent ICE.

Edit: I was getting it confused with the Renault Zoe, which you can get mega cheap but usually need a battery lease.

    Nope
I expect a surge in sales if the deadline is ever kept to as people rush to buy up the last remaining produced.
