Vatenfall looking at the UK EV charger market, particularly destination chargers. Also a brief mention of V2G.

'Massive growth is imminent': Vattenfall moves into UK EV market
A new UK e-mobility head, Anthony Hinde - who has a background in geothermal energy - is set to start at Vattenfall next month. It is therefore early days for the firm's EV charge point aspirations, and no specific targets or investment levels have yet been set - although on a wider level Vattenfall has set aside €300m investment to boost its decentralised energy business.

It is, however, actively considering offering home charging tariffs to its energy customers in future, and said it has not ruled out moving into nascent vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology in the future.

I suppose this was inevitable, but still nice to see it happening.

GM & Honda Team Up To Develop Next Gen Battery
“General Motors and Honda announced an agreement for new advanced chemistry battery components, including the cell and module, to accelerate both companies’ plans for all-electric vehicles. The next-generation battery will deliver higher energy density, smaller packaging and faster charging capabilities for both companies’ future products, mainly for the North American market. (emphasis added)

“Under the agreement, the companies will collaborate based on GM’s next generation battery system with the intent for Honda to source the battery modules from GM. The collaboration will support each company’s respective and distinct vehicles. The combined scale and global manufacturing efficiencies will ultimately provide greater value to customers.”

So Honda will be buying batteries from GM - but no word on what this "advanced" battery chemistry is.
Ah, it's just more LiIon, but with composite cathodes licenced from the US gov't.

Anyway, also from that GM/Honda press release...
The agreement deepens the bond between Honda and GM. In January, 2017, the two companies agreed to share research and development programs for hydrogen fuel cell technology.
    - the linked article makes for interesting reading.

It may only be one segment of one country (US small luxury car segment) but this could be the start of the EV disruption. Let's hope the Germans fight back with even more EV's.

Mercedes, BMW, & Audi On Verge Of Dramatic Disruption From Tesla Model 3
As the Tesla Model 3 gains significant production volume, with most of the 2018 deliveries going to US customers, other players in the US small and midsize luxury car segment look set to see their sales halved in Q3 and Q4.

Walk into a US Merc/BMW/Audi dealer tomorrow morning, you'll drive out in your new car that day.

Place a deposit on a Model 3 tomorrow, when will it be delivered?

Another thing to note in the news is the falling price of batts and packs. This article is about Tesla, but the prices for all companies are coming down quickly. Great news for all.

$100/kWh Tesla Battery Cells This Year, $100/kWh Tesla Battery Packs In 2020
This graph demonstrates that Tesla is around 4 to 5 years ahead of the industry average cost per kWh, a large part of the reason why the company can offer much more compelling and better value EVs than any of the legacy automakers. Indeed, in the “small luxury car” segment (or in the “mid-sized premium sedan” segment, depending on how you categorize things) Tesla is already outselling combustion cars in the US.

    Implications for more affordable EVs
Given that Elon Musk said that in 2 years time (2020) the battery pack cost per kWh will likely achieve the cost point that the cell cost will achieve later this year (2018) — and estimating that the pack adds around 30% to the cost — we can see that Tesla remains on an approximate 15% per year cost reduction curve. Going forward, if it can maintain this trajectory (and there is every indication that it can and is determined to), Tesla will pass pack-level costs of $90/kWh in 2021, and $60/kWh in 2023.
