Please everybody do something on Valentine's Day.

Greetings card retailers and makers need you to spend your hard earned cash on their overpriced over sentimentalised resource wasting products.

You will make florists so happy buying red roses at twice the price they were 2 weeks ago.

But wasn't the origin of Valentine's Day, a day a secret admirer sent an anonymous gift to the one they admired

  • We're spending it at the gym doing a bar blast class followed by a spinning class. This will be followed by an evening meal from the freezer that I've batch cooked beforehand.

I'm away that week- we're having the new kitchen installed and the noise and dust will make me ill so I'm going to stay with my mum a couple of hundred miles away. It's OH's birthday on the 17th so we'll probably go out then. We've already bought gifts though- I've bought OH a James Joyce book and he's bought me a Valentines charm for my bracelet from Pandora.

Flipping eck .... there are some cheerful souls about. It's a bit of fun for you and partner. Just enjoy it. Doesn't mean you have to buy anything or God forbid go out :laugh:

My plan is a work equality meeting at 3pm, then working 5-10pm. Cant see the bf as by the time i get to his he'll be going to bed as he has to be up at the crack of dawn for work himself. So we're clelebrating monday instead, i'm going to cook him steak, exchange pressies, have some ....."couple time" then a nice chilled night in :)

I don;t think its bad to celebrate it (i did when i was bitter and single :rotfl: ) i appreciate him all year round and am always doing little bits for him, valentines day is just an excuse to spoil him even more :D There won;t be cards as we don;t do cards. Well i do but he doesn't (i even sent myself one one year i was single :rotfl: )

I agree. Me and OH have been married over 30 years but still do something on Valentines Day. We might go for a meal or cook a nice meal at home. Sometimes we buy each other a little present and we always buy each other a card.

Not saying everyone should be buying cards or presents but some posters seem to want to pour scorn on anyone that does. I also get sick of the "I don't have to have 1 day to show my other half I love them, I do it every day". Well so do me and OH but it's nice to do something on Valentines Day as well

  • I love to see all the bitter and twisted messages on social media from all the singletons on Valentine's Day!

It was, which is why my dad uses the "But it's no secret that I love you." excuse for not getting my mum anything for Valentine's day :D

OH and I do get each other presents but we have a competition for who can get the most hideously tacky thing. He's still winning with a snow globe which has lovehearts instead of snow and a picture of the two of us in the middle of it...

I'm starting to get bored of Valentine's Day. I used to love it but it's got to the point where it just seems a bit contrived. The novelty has worn off and I'm not looking forward to spending an entire evening trying to think up yet another cute poem to write on his card.

However, it is the only time that my partner buys me flowers, so I'll have to keep emphasising to him that it's a really important day!

This is how I feel too. It was all fun at the beginning, with helium balloons, and teddies, and valentines themed stuff. Now 17 years later all that just seems like tat to clutter my already cluttered house up with because of a day that's made us feel like you have to do it/declare your love!
