And it is accurate: I am on a smart meter so I guess that helps: £55 per month and I can move to an even cheaper tariff saving an £5 so again all good as far as I am concerned. I have no losses to cut so far. A cautious 4 out of 5 from me and a cautious welcome back to Tonik.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.1

As I said earlier I just want a stress free life.Because Tonik has not entered the Industry reading for my new meter, installed at the end of June, I am worried. I hoped I would have a reasonably accurate bill one month later so I could switch. More than two months on I'm still waiting for that bill.

They could be worse than spark energy, as when I closed my account I was refunded in 2 weeks. Though completely shocked I got money from them. Though my method was ring and ring and build up a case which was not recommend on this forum. But reading the latest Google reviews of Tonik it is plain that problems pop up when you try to leave. If you are in debt they will threaten you with debt collectors and if you are in credit they are having technical problems blah blah blah. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.1 -

I have just started a switch to M&S Energy for my electricity. They are newcomers to the market but are actually Octopus in disguise (where do they hide all those arms!) They are fractionally cheaper than my current deal with Tonik after the various rebates. More importantly they don't levy an exit charge. Hence when my gas deal with So Energy ends I can get back to a dual fuel tariff. While I'm in credit with Tonik at the moment I won't be by the time of their final bill. So I'll just pay that and go.Fingers crossed.0

Not happy with Tonik, I'm in the process of moving over to them and the rates I'll receive are higher than advertised (as others have mentioned). Not great customer service: no chat service, slow email replies, and their call centre sounded loud and manic.
I'm going to cancel my move-over and go with Green instead, who answered my questions quickly on chat, have 4.8/5 on Trustpilot and no exit fee.
Update: Just phoned Tonik again and their systems have been down all day, so can't do anything. Another negative.0 -
Last time I spoke to them a few months ago the call centre was in South Africa. There was a lot of background noise, like they were having a party rather than working. Felt like the guy I spoke to wasn't very interested and TBH I don't blame him. If he was getting calls from irate customers all day and wondering how much longer Tonik would survive I wouldn't be happy in his shoes. I'm surprised that Tonik havn't actually gone bust, the impression is that they are just about clinging on.

Stick or twist? I moved my MIL to Tonik a couple of years ago and she has smart meters. Bills over last 9months appear to be totally random (apart from the 5 months when there were no bills at all). Current credit looks about right and DD looks about right but I suppose I'd better check them. She doesn't know about any of the chaos and I'm guessing most of their customers don't know either.
The new 12month tariff looks competitive and with free boiler service.

If MIL hasn't got the message from reading this thread by now .... it's what you call a no-brainer
Pity that smart meters are not smart enough to do the job automatically.
