  • They most certainly do not need a direct debit mandate in place before they can issue a refund! Just watch out that they do not attempt to extract more money from your bank account as they have done with other departing/departed customers!
This company has previous form as you might see from other comments on this and other threads dealing with Tonik as well as a host of one star reviews on Trustpilot and Facebook sites devoted to their many customer failings.
  • Switched to them because they were cheapest.
Switched away from them when they were not.
No problems in, out or Inbetween!
  • Lucky you! I suppose most of their customers aren't having problems, otherwise they would have gone bust by now, but a significantly large minority are getting grief.

Depends if the poster left them before it all went tits up with Tonik.

Must now be close to 100% of their "current" customers (including those under the impression they've switched away or cancelled inside the cooling off period) who they're screwing over.
  • Interesting website (TonikEnergyComplaints). Looks like Tonik have come to the attention of BBC Watchdog (at long last)!

  • Apology received today from Tonik, as ordered by the ombudsman. I have replaced names with asterisks.

    Good Afternoon Mr *********,

    I hope you are well.

Firstly, I want to sincerely apologise for the issues and shortfalls in service you have experienced. I have attached your letter of apology to this email and can confirm the goodwill gesture of £75.00 has been applied to your account.
As the remedies have now been completed, I will inform the Ombudsman of this and mark your complaint as closed. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to let me know via return email.

I will leave Tonik a t a time of my choosing. My electricity deal from them is cheaper than any available deal elsewhere so I may stay for a few months.
  • I left Tonik at end January 2020 and I had never missed a payment. In July 2020 they suddenly sent me a bizarre and confusing bill quoting charges back to March 2019 and demanding £202. I immediately queried it and was given a ticket number. Since then I have had no explanation but have received 2 demands for the money the last of which threatened me with a debt collection agency. I escalated my complaint today.
  • I fear that this is by now well established practice with Tonik and that you are not alone. Perhaps someone with more experience in these things can post just what the situation is with debt collection agency use: Can anyone just issue such a threat on the basis of flimsy or non-existent evidence and put the victim to the hassle and stress of proving that the claims are groundless or at least unsubstantiated? I would imagine that the onus is on the claimant / dc agency to show that the claim has legs otherwise any fair minded system of justice would throw it out.  But in today's world ...
