Not paying them helps - make sure they don't owe you money when they go bust. As does ombudsman referral. They have also lost 2 directors recently. Tonik's parent company has lost 3 directors recently:Interesting article in "Thisis money" (I can't post links yet) about energy firms. Google it.Rapidly rising rate of ofgem complaints.Unfortuantely Trustpilot reviews haven't caught up with reality. Tonik *was* a good company but have obviously lost their way. Destined for bankruptcy or takeover.

I had to open a case with the Ombudsman as they didn't (and still haven't) replied to any of my communications going back to 1st May. I switched from Tonik in 2018 but they suddenly enlisted a debt collection agency to chase me for the amount of my final bill (£227) despite the fact I could still log in and view the payment on my online account.
Today they have finally responded via the Ombudsman, proposing a letter confirming I owe them nothing. This space has been intentionally left blank0 -

So thought my final bill on 21st July was final bill with payment taken on 31st after I switched away 6 months ago. No email or anything to inform me.
Then email today to confirm my bill is ready to view online. Log on and there is a not one but two final bills dated 3/8/20. Both saying I owe Xx.xx but then my balance is 0 as they have already taken my payment on the first final bill in july
tonik really are a laughingstock0 -
So update: they’ve proposed £60 compensation and an apology letter. They’ve said their automated system has been preventing the ETR but outlined this can be overridden. Shame they didn’t override back in February and got it sorted then! I await the ombudsman decision. What a waste of my time this has been, it’s been like a part time job trying to get this sorted out what with emails, phone calls, evidence etc
Ugh!
Please, anyone thinking of going with Tonik, don’t!0 -
Fortuantely I haven't wasted too much time on Tonik. The ombudsman stuff took about half an hour. Total time for callse emails etc probably 3 or 4 hours. Still time that could have been better used. We are encouraged to switch supplier to get the best deal and are assured that it's easy. But I've had several bad experiences, albeit after switching more or less annually for a number of years. Those who switch, get mucked about, and don't have such good complaining skills are a lot worse off than me.

Just had a message fromt he ombudsman to say my case is moving to the next stage:The opportunity to add any further evidence to your complaint has now ended. The complaint will shortly be assigned to an Investigation Officer to review the complaint, evidence and comments provided by both parties.

Same this end, should have ombudsmen decision soon. Switching shouldn’t be this hard should it. I can’t wait for this to be sorted!0

This dreadful company needs serious investigation. They are breaking the energy code of practice.
Switch was complete mess, billing statements are non existent, they use over estimated readings & ignore customers correct readings, customers in credit cant get their money back. Only automated replies to communications, hours on the phone - on hold or being passed around but getting nowhere.
So many complaints on social media about Tonik Energy.
Perhaps it's about time that the Ombudsman & Ofgem took action against this company.

Does MSE have any input or influence at least as far as new users switching to Tonik are concerned? Is there a Government Health Warning equivalent on their website?Telegraph Sam
There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know0
