Council house while selling.

I'm interested to know people's thoughts on this one...
I currently own (with a mortgage) my own property.
The house just isn't big enough now, 3 children in a 2 bed house, of mixed gender. The oldest being 7 and youngest 4 months, with one in the middle.
Hubby and I have been round and round in circles trying to figure out our options.
We can't get another larger mortgage in both our names due to my current bad credit.
Will renting in just his name even be possible.... his wages may not be enough? Can I even add my name to rent agreement with bad credit?
Can't afford to do an extention, and it wouldn't be worth it due to the house value.
Seriously considering selling my house, but in the meantime don't want to be homeless with 3 children.
Can we put ourselves on a council house list while I've got a house until it is sold.??
Help please. Advise is needed before I go out of my mind. :rotfl:

I'd have a look at renting either in joint or sole names. At least you'd know the answer.0

You have a house, council housing is for people who don't have a house. Even if you sell your house, you will be considered low priority as you have made yourself intentionally homeless. Even if you get a council house, you may be on a "sink" estate.
Why not let the children have the bedrooms and you and your husband have a bed settee in the living room;
Warning - I expect some posters on here will criticise you for having a 3rd child when you have inadequate housing. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
All councils are different, however, owning your own home would not allow you on a council list in my area.
For the meantime, baby doesn't need its own room, neither do the other two children so you don't seem to be too bad at the moment.
Why not try and build on your credit and work out what you can do in the future in the next year and a half at least whilst space isn't so limited.0 -
Thank you, I'm just simply trying to get an idea of our options, and opinions of what other people would do before I loose the plot lol.
I always thought it was good to have a mortgage, but it seems to be holding us down atm.
I was guessing that may be the case re.. council house.
Yes, I am completely prepared for people's negative comments, but unfortunately my body clock doesn't have a pause button while waiting for my credit report to improve (which at this rate will be when I'm 210!)
Also The area we live in is not great (understatement) and I suppose we are striving for better for the kids with limited options.0 -
What is the legal age that siblings of different sex can share a room?0

I'm not meaning to be negative, but these statements don't make sense.
You had two children so your body clock did not require you to have three. You may have wanted three, but you cannot blame a body clock.
Wanting better for your children would only be having the amount of children you could provide everything you wanted for them. Many couples have 1/2 children when they would like more as that is simply all they can afford to keep to their standards.0 -

It's 10, but that doesn't magic a house out of thin air.
Even 30 years ago my 13 year old friend was sharing a bedroom with her parents. They put two wardrobes at the end of their bed and she slept behind the wardrobes.0 -

Only in council accommodation. It doesn't apply to private dwellings. The guidance is 10, but as you say that doesn't mean you suddenly become a criminal family on the oldest 10th Birthday!0 -
Gosh, spent my entire childhood in a 2 bed house. There were 4 of us children, also mixed gender. We had the bedrooms, my parents slept in the sitting room.0
