I'm certainly not "blaming" my body clock, I'm simply saying that if I waited for my financial situation to be better then I would be too old to even consider having children.

One room for girls, one room for boys, then have a sofa bed in the lounge for parents - can't see why this wouldn't work?

Or, how about moving to a cheaper part of the country? Sell the house, use the equity to rent for six months and get new jobs?

You chose to have three kids, so need to make do with what you have!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Why can't the oldest two share a room? The baby will be in your bedroom for a long time.

Yes, our older boy and girl are currently sharing and baby is in with us. Which is fine for the time being, just not a long term option.
It was already worst case before we had our youngest, because the older 2 are different genders. So the 3rd realy made no difference to the situation.

Too often in threads like this the question is always about how someone else can bail out the posters bad luck / bad decisions.

The reality is OP, that if you want a bigger house, get a bigger pay packet.

If different genders are really that significant, why can't mum and daughters share a room and dad and sons share a room, or parents get a sofa bed, or realise that different genders sharing a room isn't a problem.

Not really. In that scenario in three years you'd have been advised (but not required) that the older two have their own rooms.

You would not have needed to give them their own room. Or you could have gone in the living room and the children had a room each. OR used a partition wall in the biggest bedroom to give the children a little 'cubby' room (my friend and her brother have this. She is 23...)

Now, you'd have an additional three year old to contend with.

Having another child certainly did make a difference. Sorry.

How many rooms are there in the entire house?

Do you have an attached garage on the house?

Do you have any attic space?

I am asking as sometimes, when you have a problem you dont see the solution because the problem gets in the way. Like not seeing the wood for the trees.

So, if you have an attached garage, a few weekends hard work, some building materials which are usually given free on Freecycle / Freegle and you have a downstairs room.

Alternatively, board out the loft, do a bit of work, again a few weekends, and you could have another bedroom.

If you have a sitting room AND dining room, - as a temporary measure until your finances are a little better, us the dining room as your bedroom.

Can you barter for some building work? Some areas have a scheme where you can "trade trades" so, a builder might give some hours work for some hours childcare or ironing or cooking etc. i know not everywhere does but its worth checking out.

NB. If you decide to convert a space, please, I BEG you to make sure you have addequate escape routes in case of fire. And the attic should really have a fire extinguisher.

  • Is the bedrooms reasonable size. The reason I am asking is because I knew a family in a 2 bedroom Victorian terraced who managed to divide one bedroom into two and it wouldn't cost a arm and a leg. They had one boy and one girl both around 8 -10 at the time

There is probably a very long waiting list for a three bed in most areas of the country.

inwprl with people who have been on lists for years. you won't be high priority as you're currently housed and once you sell the house unless you're in negative equity you'll be expected to rent private.

Not all private tents will be through agencies. Many will be private e.g. In the papers etc. These landlords won't necessarily do as many checks and once you've sold the house could you be a In position to pay X months rent etc.

It may be different in your area - but the wait for theee bed properties is probably very long. Also you won't get choice about where it will be - or very little choice meaning this could afgectvthe school your children attend.
