Concerns about new build

Hi there

We are due to complete the purchase of our new house next Friday.

I have just been for a look around the estate via car to see what it was like on the night time and the house across the road seems to have 4 cars - its a 4 bedroomed house but only 2 car parking spaces that are parked on the road outside the house we are buying.

We are plot 122 and the house in question is the one immediately across the road. We did have a choice of houses and we thought others might be in a better location BUT the interior of this one was far nicer then any of the others.

What does everyone think? I presume cars will park on the road all the way around the estate to be fair... there will be nothing to stop them afterall. Should i just go with it?

Unless they are putting bays on the road that need permits and that will be enforced then there isn't much you can do. This is the problem with a lot of new build estates, there generally isn't enough parking for the people who live there, let alone their visitors. This is because there's more money to be made in selling houses than selling parking spaces for the developer.
  • Aye.. it's a shame really because it looks lovely now. But, all the houses are 4 bedroomed ones. You have to think even if they only have two cars now if they all have two kids and they all get cars.... where do they park?!

As each house only has two spaces. That said, I guess we can still buy for 5 years or so and re-evaluate then.
  • Doesn't really look like there's anywhere on the Estate where this will not be a problem either...

We had originally thought about getting Plot 124 for that reason - because there isn't another house immediately across the road from it just a wall and pavement. But, even then, its probably more likely to get a car or so parked there baring in mind that there's no house.

    I don't know...

    I've been Money Tipped!
Is there room for a drive?

  • each house has its own drive.. the one across the road has a double drive for two cars and a double garage.

Ours has a single width drive but deep enough for two cars.

But still there seems to be 2 cars on their drive and 2 on the road immediately opposite what would be our living room. I guess if we get blinds etc then it doesn't really matter... but, for the money! it's a bit poop.

When we looked at one new build house we found that we would barely get one of our cars into the 'garage' and opening the door when inside would have been awkward. They seem to be used more as a 'selling point' rather than being practical.
  • I guess this is a common problem really. I mean if money was no object we would be buying a house with a bit of land and its own private driveway around from everyone else. But, we don't have that luxury.

It's just in a good place for a good school and its only a small site. I have driven around other estates and as people have suggested it seems to be a common problem with no real solution.

I guess i will have to put up with it as its too late to pull out really. Anyone else bought a new build and been annoyed with this issue?
  • I've uploaded a photo showing the location of the cars.

The cars being the different colour splurges of colour.

I don't know if someone can post as a photograph for me?

If you've got your own drive large enough for two cars then what's really the problem? (speaking as someone who often can't find a space anywhere in their own street!)
