anyone know how this works with bt mobile contracts?

I have just signed up in the last month to a 12 month fibre deal and a 12 month sim deal and now am considering my options.

I have done well out of the initial signup deals which negates the 2.50 a month price rice for the remainder 10 months of the contract. I have got £150 gift card £80 cashback and sold the router for £50. So I guess i could live with the price rise.

    My questions are:

    1. If I leave will I have to then pay £5 more for my sim only deal which puts me off leaving?
    2. If i did leave do i get penalised for the equipment?

The way I see it if there is a good fibre deal at less than £32.50 a month (what my discounted rate is) then it may be worth swtiching away.

If you cancel because of the price rise, you keep the equipment and they will continue to give £5 off the SIM contract, but you may have to phone to ensure this is done.

I was told on the phone that I could cancel penalty free then got an email saying I needed to pay £31 broadband termination charge and £65 equipment charge - anyone else had this?
    I think....

We had the same thing however when I phoned back I was offered a better deal saving us about £7 a month. It was also confirmed that the the email is a standard one generated and that there would be no charges if we left BT.

I phoned up on Wednesday after receiving my e-mail on the 9th February to cancel my BT contract. I had also paid for advance line rental, and BT informed me that I wouldn't receive any refund but was free to leave the internet.

I argued my case that it was an unfair contract, and my refusing to refund me, it denies me the option to shop around for a better deal, thus meaning the best option is to accept the price increase. After they refused to budge, I asked for this to be escalated to a complaint as I wanted to express my dissatisfaction to the issue.

Today I got a call back saying I would get a pro rata refund if I switch within 30 days of today. Strange how I now log on to read the forums and BT should have known about this all the time especially with the Guardian article being a few weeks old.

I also asked for confirmation of my conversation by e-mail to which I received an e-mail immediately.

I have now tried to switch to Sky using the MSE limited code offer, giving half price line rental and sadly it's not available in my area. I find this strange as they were able to offer fibre and normal price line rental. Other companies have been able to offer their best priced broadband deals, and I live in Plymouth and served by a city exchange. I've even been a sky customer (over a year ago) and had exactly the same service, so perhaps the so called offer from MSE is a ploy to try and upsell to fibre.

Got my last bill and despite being told twice that they wouldn't charge me £65 for leaving, they did. I put in a complaint on their chat service and got a refund. Everyone that's leaving because of the price rise needs to check their last bill. If you see a £65 charge for the BT hub, put in a complaint. I think this is really bad because some people will pay not knowing they don't have to pay for the hub.

I think they haven't paid me all my line rental back either but I will wait for my refund and try and work out what they owe me.

Out of interest how soon after your BT service was disconnected did you receive your final bill ? - I'm just over a week now and still waiting for my final bill.

It's a bit of a farce. I missed calls from BT and at the same time I have a voicemail saying cancellation has gone through and a text message saying order has not gone through as they can't speak to me!
