If you're in receipt of housing benefit you might need to consider that as well.:rotfl:0

Well I did, and people I am still in touch with still can and do take 6 weeks continuous leave.
And actually what she said was...
'I work full time and have no problem taking extended periods of time off'
she may take unpaid leave, she may have an agreement with her Employer re her husbands illness, she might even work in a family business, who knows, what she asked was what this forum thought was the best to do re advising the DWP.
Think she expected abuse and comments re 6 weeks leave and not someone asking what Employer allowed 6 weeks leave.
Go figure, surprised again.
Not so much employer as sector / industry / role.
Either way, if you can get it, why not!!0 -
Ginger Ale - just go on holiday, and do not call the DWP.
On balance, and given muddled responses you have received I think it may be riskier to tell DWP you are going away, rather than staying stum. Why ? Because the DWP appear to be leaving your OH alone .... keep it that way.0 -

Cant help agreeing with this. Dealing with DWP is excruciating in my experience (many years ago) and less contact the better imo. Its 6 weeks, not 6months. Go have fun and not worry about it
op - By all means take what advice you need from these posts but please dont explain how you can take extended leave, its not anyone elses business but your own and not relevant to your question ..... people just love to be nosey!! (aka jealousy)0 -
Going for six weeks and not telling them, when you're on benefits which only allow you to go for four weeks, is fraud.
Write and tell them.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
I work in the public sector, get 7 weeks A/L and pretty much book leave when I need it. in addition I work flexi and can accrue 2 days a month easily.
And I know I could not book 6 weeks leave. Hence my question
I sort of work for government body and I get 8 weeks holidays and Toil and I do take 6 weeks leave, have done it a few times. I take the holidays December and first two weeks Jan. This way my December hols is in one of our holiday year and Jan weeks is in the next year.0 -
I would just go. Couldn't someone check on your mail and open anything from DWP in case its them asking you to attend something in the future? Its hardly as though you're leaving the country for 3 years is it... it'd be madness to fly home then immediately fly back off to New Zealand just for the sake of being physically in the country for a few days.0

It's all good and well others suggesting to the OP that they should 'just go and not worry about it' because of course they won't be the ones that might get in trouble for not following the rules.
The OP is stressed enough about it already.
OP, just give them a call. It may just be that the worst that can happen is you will need to make a rapid reclaim on your return and the best is that they tell you to go and enjoy yourselves!0 -
As someone else has said, the savings on the flights would probably be more than two weeks' benefit, and as the advert says, the peace of mind of not stressing about fraud is priceless.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

Now the ideal scenario would be to fly to Oz attend wedding one, spend time with family see the country then fly to NZ attend wedding two then fly home.
OH was medically retired 6 years ago and in receipt of DLA & ESA.
Is there anything in his ESA claim that would lead them to think that he wouldn't be capable of such a long trip?
I have heard of people who have had problems getting ESA because photos of them on FB seem to contradict the claims they are making on their forms.0
