Sorry, there are no remote codes for the 2600 Classic, only your network provider, or a pro unlocker can sort this out for you.

I'm just wondering if it's possible to unlock an N78 at all, and if so where the best place is to get it done? It's on Vodafone at the moment, but my sim is with Orange.

I'm also tempted to get my phone number switched to Vodafone - is this possible?

I'd rather unlock the phone if possible though, I get better reception on Vodafone, yet at the same time, Orange's Dolphin package looks great, plus 241 on the cinema deals.

There are no remote codes for the BB5 phones, the only way is to contact your network, or take it to a pro unlocker.

There's a site called UniquePhones which looks pretty good, but am I better off contacting the network provider, just to be sure?

the web site claims their "software" generates the codes , but there is no such software outside the hands of the networks. They are selling on codes from a contact on the Networks

All shop unlocks are done using direct contact with a special service box

Is it possible to almost play them off against each other to get it done for free or cheaper? I've no problem with paying the full price, but my friend inadvertently got his done for free when he rang up his current provider asking if he could transfer his PAYG number over to the new network, and they said they'd pay for him to get his phone unlocked

BB5 phone, only your network provider, or pro unlocker can do this for you.
