it is unlocked otherwise it would still say restricted
it is the same code that you would get from orange and entering another code wont make any difference.
it sounds like it has a software fault (not uncommon) and needs an upgrade.
how old is the phone? as you may be able to get it done under warrenty
what s/w version has it got on it?
    press *#0000# to find out

I have just bought the phone on ebay so I presume that was when the phone was manufactured.

My wifes phone which is also a 6230i is software ver 3.8.

Could fresh mobile update the phone or does it have to be orange. I do have an orange sim but it is payg.

no allowed means that all the code tires are used up, it can still be unlocked by a shop or market stall

    fresh wont do it
you need to take it to a nokia repair center
see here to find your nearest:

i think the latest firmware is v4.22 but i know that v3.8 did fix a shutdown problem.
4 nov 2005 is prob the date of f/w not manufacture but they can check how old it is by the bar code inside (24 months warenty).
if its out of warrenty then it would cost about £10 for upgrade

3.88 is the latest firmware, there is a slightly later one 3.89 but this is not generally used.

You can as Drachir said take it to a service centre, but you could also take it to an unlocking shop as well and they could flash the firmware upgrade and check that it is unlocked at the same time.

It is a pretty straight forward job and will takes about 10 minutes.

I might take to the carphonewarehouse and see if i can get them to flash it for me. As I want to use it on their mobile network (fresh) they might do it for free. Heres hoping!

I have read elsewhere that early firmware has bluetooth probs and as this is the main reason for buying the phone this upgrade maybe a good idea.

    Thanks for your help again
