  • Irving Townsend had a couple of thoughtful quotes about the loss of cherished animals and continuing on...

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle; easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps, we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan."

    and

"Another cat? Perhaps. For love there is also a season; its seeds must be resown.
But a family cat is not replaceable like a wornout coat or a set of tires. Each new kitten becomes its own cat, and none is repeated.
I am four cats old, measuring out my life in friends that have succeeded but not replaced one another."

Oh these have made me well up so much - how beautiful!

Geebee I'm so glad we're comforting you. Lots of love. :kisses2:

If anyone read my previous post I just deleted it because I thought it was too distressing to be on this thread. I got myself very upset.

What I would say though is don't close your heart to the prospect of another cat. At this time you cannot replace the lost loved one but you could give another poor animal a much needed home and they would be a comfort and distraction for you.

  • Geez I so know how this feels. It hurts to the point where you can feel physical pain in your stomach and chest.
We lost our 1st ever furbaby girl 8 years ago and words could not describe how I felt. They truly do become part of the family and it's such a heartbreaking time when they move over to Rainbow Bridge. The pain & sorrow is unbearable.

I actually felt such deep sadness more than when my Granny passed away. I felt so guilty for feeling like that as I loved my Granny so much. But the feelings just overwhelmed me.
I literally spent 5 days on the sofa like a zombie wishing my baby was still here.
An over reaction to some maybe, but we all deal with grief in many different ways.

    I, like yourself don't have children (can't naturally. :( )
But my cats really are my babies and they mean so much to me.
We now have 2 more furbabies which I truly dote on. I'm scared of that day which will eventually come in the future when they also cross over to the Bridge. They are both 8 but still doesn't stop me thinking about it.

Sending lots of cuddly hugs to you, I know you will be in great need of them right now. It's a distressing time and it will seem like you have a big hole in your life at this present time. It will get easier, I can't promise when, but one day that cloud will have lifted and your days will be a little brighter. 16.gif16.gif

    Much love. x

  • We had a little toast to Ginge last night - one of SILs coworkers knew what a crap time she'd been having and left us a bottle of bubbly. We're both skint due to a succession of horrendous vets bills . . So after sharing those 2 lovely quotes from Quizzical Squirrel and working out how many cats old we were, we then moved on to what a ridiculous spot my niece and her boyf decided to dig the grave - right in the middle of the garden where the rabbit run goes in the summer!!
  • Sorry for your loss :( I know when our eldest cat went missing, it was the most heartbreaking few hours. And she was only missing for 5 hours! She's a daft cat who doesn't go outside. But one day she decided to bolt out the door in the middle of a thunderstorm. We searched everywhere, in a crazy panic. Finally found her shivering under a car, two doors down. Like I said, she's a daft cat, but we love her.
I know your darling cat felt loved and treasured through her whole life. The fact that you're so upset shows that you loved her, and that love will have been felt in everything you did for, and with, her.
    Love and hugs. xx

I haven't slept and i can't eat, i can't stop crying, i loved her so much, this might sound silly, but to me she was my baby as i never had children.

    I love her so much

I just need other cat lovers to help me feel better, i need to know, do you think she knew how much i loved her and how much she meant to me?

I'm a dog person, but obviously I know what you mean, yes she would have known. When my last (not current) dog passed away all my friends said that I couldn't have given him a better life, and that he had won the dog lottery on the day that I first got him.

    GeeBee of course she knew.

Before we ended up as a sanctuary for broken cats we inherited my MILS cat

He is a stunning, moody, battered ex stray tomcat.

He has a main home and a backup

Whilst my MIL was dying, tomcat stayed in, didn't go to other house in search of food, stayed in with MIL blinking at her.
    He grieved for a year

I am really sorry to hear about your cat.
I hope you are OK and will get to a place where you can look at photos and remember good things.

I am a bit worried about Breadcat at the mo, so vets for us tomorrow. They don't just stick their claws in your lap these beasties, they take a chunk of your heart.
