We lost our wee girl last year quite sudden. Went to wake her, she was still warm and curled up but gone - she was only 6.
Never found out why - was scared in case they said it was our fault but I can't think how.
We now have a new furball but nothing will replace the previous one. I think of our girl all the time and miss her terribly but the wee furball is helping me - even if she still scratches a bit (she is a kitten still)
Time does help - thinking of you at this time.0 -

Hi, thanks for sharing with me, so sorry to hear about your girl, heartbreaking isn't it
so happy to hear you have a new cat, that's lovely, i doubt i could even think of getting another yet, she was the only one i ever had and i just couldn't go through all this upset again0 -
Oh I am so sorry to hear of your loss GeeBee!
Pets always know how much we love them, it's unmistakeable.

Oh dear - I feel your pain as had my old cat put to sleep on Monday. I had been away for a week and she was clearly not well in my return (had a friend come in and feed her etc but who won't have realised the difference in I think) I took her to vets and after some discussion she concluded it was likely her thyroid so we agreed (reluctantly for the vet I feel) to put her to sleep as I would not treat any illness due to her age. But, like you, my old girl had a great life and was so loved. I miss her and keep looking for her scowling face on the stairs (she was rather grumpy and hated the dog). Oh dear - I'm crying again now! I still feel so guilty but I would have hater her to suffer. My husband was all 'you can get another one ' - he's not a cat person. I need some time. Also, it was the first time I have stayed with a pet when they do the deed - heartbreaking. Xx0

"Another cat? Perhaps. For love there is also a season; its seeds must be resown.
But a family cat is not replaceable like a wornout coat or a set of tires. Each new kitten becomes its own cat, and none is repeated.
I am four cats old, measuring out my life in friends that have succeeded but not replaced one another."
If we had been looking for a clone of our last but one cat, we'd have had a hell of a shock with the 'new one'.
I'd have thought it would be impossible to get 2 cats so disimilar in temperament.
But we loved the 'replacement' in different ways.
He was a legendary hunter who brought home and ate all his prey on the back door step.
He was bad-tempered and actually threw a strop when he was told off.
He fought to be the boss of us, it took some doing to keep him in check.
He refused to acknowledge that anyone else inhabited his world.
He loved me and tolerated my OH.
He ignored all the efforts of our next door neighbour to make friends.
He was a monster in many ways but he was my monster.
I loved him dearly and almost 5 years on still miss the little sod.
He did have lots of redeeming qualities too.0 -
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I have lost cats too, also that were like children to us (sounds crazy to non-cat people) and the best thing I can say is to remember that you gave your little cat the best life she could possibly have had.
That thought is the thing I found comforting, I hope it works for you too.0 -
Thank you every one for sharing your painful stories with me, it's really nice to know i can come on here and feel comforted by complete strangers, i'm really hurting at the moment, but your kind, caring words are really helping
Thank you again.

I am so sorry for your loss.
Our kitty is only four and already I dread that day - I've had a few friends go through ti recently. They are a member of the family - non pet owners don't understand that - and your grief is no less because she's a kitty.
Blue Cross have a freephone pet bereavement support number, if you want to speak to someone who'll understand - 0800 096 6606. It's open 8.30am-8.30pm and is staffed by volunteers who have lost pets themselves. There's more info here:
