About 2 months ago EE finally opened up 4G to their mvos
Eg Virgin and plusnet.
BT Mobile, Virgin and Plusnet are the only EE MVNOs with 4G, but still not given the extra 4G features like WifiCalling, visual voicemail or 4G Calling. But I like paying £5-6 a month!
No argument if that's your price point, but you do miss the newest features by going to the lowest priced MVNOs, I'm happy to pay £19.99 a month for unlimited calls and texts and 16GB on EE, I don't view that as expensive.====0 -
Prices quoted are for 4g data.
I'm quite happy to stay a little behind the technology curve and have more in saving accounts.
How does 4G calling benefit one ?
P.s virgin allows you to use whatsapp without decrementing your data allowance.
You get so many free minutes these days do I really need wifi calling ?0 -

4G calling is making calls over the 4G network, the 4G network is the network that EE are currently expanding and improving hugely, soon there will be swathes of the country where only 4G will have coverage (because of the ESN rollout) and only 4G Calling capable devices will have access to this part of the network.
There will literally be a 2 class network, an advanced 4G network and a smaller, less advanced 3G/4G network, users of the first get to use everything, users of the second only get the smaller network.P.s virgin allows you to use whatsapp without decrementing your data allowance.
Whatsapp is pretty irrelevant to the conversation as it isn't something you can make standard calls on (maybe one day your doctor, government departments, banks etc will use whatsapp, but not yet). You get so many free minutes these days do I really need wifi calling ?
WifiCalling doesn't give you extra minutes or free minutes, it allows you to use your allowance from areas with no signal. It allows the user to use any wifi network as if it was a cell site.
Your phone connects to the wifi and can make and receive calls/texts as if you had signal.====0 -
Arh I see. I will continue with my value for money package at the moment until such times that we have a wonderful infrastructure.
I'm surprised we have wifi calling when such great things are around the corner.0 -

WifiCalling will have a place for some time to come. A lot of modern buildings are being built using materials for insulation and window films that impact on the signal and places like basements will struggle to get decent signal.====0 -
Thanks all for your responses - plenty of food for thought! In answer to an early question, yes, all are paying for phones too but two of the contracts are up soon so some kind of Sim only approach would seem to make sense.0

Decide what allowance you want and then ask EE for your PAC numbers, you'll find they will offer discounted tariffs lower than what's on the website.
Best offers will be if you turn down the first offers they make when you ask for the PAC and when they phone you back the following day.====0 -
I got an email from Sky on Tuesday talking about their new mobile phone service they have/just about to come out with where you get free calls and texts if you are a Sky customer and you can have up to 5 plans on your Sky account,... didn't really read much more in to it as its not something I need, but might be worth a look,..0

Sky Mobile runs on o2, if the OP is used to using EE it would be a very nasty shock to end up on o2...====0 -
I renewed my sim only package with EE a couple of weeks ago.
Three people each on 2MB, unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, calls and text allowance carries forward when using phone in Europe . also 500MB for use in Europe.
12 month contract.0
