Don't feel guilty - I could manage it physically but not time wise - and I've taken the view that if I can get a little bit of help to free me up, why not. In fact, I recently took 6 shirts to the dry cleaners for ironing - I felt so strange - almost admitting I can't do it all, but I was so glad to drop them off! (Mind, I took 6 shirts which are so tricky to iron I end up doing them over and over and they still look bad - when I got them back there was a note saying basically 'we did the best we could!' - and they were acceptably ironed but it made me feel justified! I did the easy to iron ones myself!)

Does anyone else find the term 'light housework' demeaning and patronising? It's bl00dy hard work.
Yes! I'm puffing like an old steam-engine if I've put the Dys0n round, not to mention dripping with sweat!

Not a lot done today - but I did have a very rough weekend. Managed a WM load of Mr LW's clothes though, and made a quiche and a lemon cheesecake, and we managed to get into town for his meds and my pot of Tiger Balm - we then got totally engrossed in an exhibition in Middleton Hall, in the CMK shopping mall; it's MK's 50th anniversary this year, and it was all about the history of the city. So a couple of hours "lost" to that. Oops.....

    Hello peeps

Thanks Natty for the lists and Valli for last week.

I too had done living rooms yesterday so not much to do today apart from the paid stuff from home as I had a dentist appt to recement my bridge again. Doogie walked in the daylight today at 'lunchbreak' and was surprised to clock up my daily steps by then.
Bathroom shower is currently soaking in mould and mildew remover which keeps it clean but stinks. Dinner is done and everything washed up dried up and put away. Am really tired so am hoping for an early night as have a long day tomoz with work then college til 830.

    Afternoon already

Ds2 had a high temperature over night so no one had much sleep. He nearly collapsed again. Sofa day for him. He is much brighter now and may be back in school tomorrow. He is upset he has lost his 100% attendance record
    Hope he's ok now.

Back, after being AWOL for ages. Hope everyone is OK.
    Welcome back

Lamewolf, hope you are feeling a bit better today.

As for anyone worrying about the ironing. There is so much that does not need doing. Seriously only school uniforms and smart work clothes get done in this house now and I used to do everything including underwear and tea towels. Life is not worth doing huge amounts and most creases drop out with the warmth or stretching round the body. Save time, put your feet up and spend time with your family. And if kids want stuff ironing they can learn how to do it, if they're at secondary school was my rule.

Right a bit of reading ready for tomorrow, down my cuppa then bed. See you later in the week x

  • Hi all

I made myself do 20 minutes on the spinning bike this morning, struggling to get back into my normal exercise routine. Still have the sore throat though so maybe thats something to do with it.

Dad to hospital today to see the consultant so no flying done - although I did dust and hoover the LR yesterday. Back to a full day at the paid stuff tomorrow.

Light housework - pah - us flyladies do nothing but proper housework! It is all good exercise though.
  • I really really need to get on top of housework and clutter. It's just me in the flat and it's all too easy to let it slide! How much do folks usually manage after a day at work? Just wondering what I ought to be aiming for...

    Slightly edited list:
Mushy Monday ~ Living room and other reception rooms!

    Level One...

    [STRIKE]Declutter and vacuum floors[/STRIKE]
Wipe sofas - I've taken the cushions off and hoovered them, I assume wiping is meant for leather sofas? Mine are fabric..

    Level Two...
[STRIKE]Dust all electrical appliances: just the laptop and the piano although the piano desperately needed doing![/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]Wipe and water plants[/STRIKE]

    Hello all,
Dashed around before work this morning - WM loaded, few bits of ironing done (another one who has seriously reduced the amount of ironing done in this house over the past year or so), S&S toilets and basins.
Got back from work to find DH and DD mid disagreement. Threw my toys out of the pram and took it out on the vacuum cleaner :o. Still, I got 2 results - argument stopped and the dining room is clean :rotfl: Think the vacuum was pushed around way too forcefully to be called "light" housework!!
Dinner cooked, washed up, bins out for tomorrow's collection and packed lunches sorted. Time to sit down with a sneaky piece of lemon drizzle cake... Early night calls after two nights of waking up at 3am.
    Have good evenings all.

So I'm starting gently and just going for level 1 today. I have cleaned the living room, dusted, wiped sofas and hoovered the floor.

DW is on now too. I really ought to iron but not sure if I can be bothered. It's not the ironing it's the putting away I don't like.

    - 1 load through DW
    - MIL's phone, gas, electric all now changed to new address and made about £46 in the process from TCB so that will pay for us all to have a meal out once the removal van has left on Sat!
    - Her new address has been emailed round to various friends & relatives.
    - I've started another report.
    - Shuffled a student round so I now don't need to go into uni tomorrow (so I guess it's me on carpet fitting supervision duty provided he comes after zumba)

Vaguely kept on top of gibble at our house. I did say vaguely.
Deleted/actioned a few of the red items on my task list (mine as opposed to MIL's).
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.

I so agree with you. I only iron 'top' clothes that absolutely need it :D

I don't know if it will help anyone else but, since injuring my ribs and unable to shift heavy furniture, I have been using a long, thin duster on a stick to sweep under the bed, sofas etc to get at any dust. Then use my very light-weight stick hoover to catch the dust bunnies. Seems to be working quite well ;)

    Dailies done
I dusted right through today, top to bottom.
    Did some cooking and freezing
    Spanish lessons up-to-date

Mushy Monday ~ Living room !
    Vacuum floor
    Wipe sofas
    15 minutes filing
Make any important phone calls you have been putting off
Vacuum under furniture you can move safely

Tempting Tuesday ~ Kitchen and Dining Area
    Wipe and replace small appliances
    Sweep and mop floors
    Wipe units/appliances
Clean one small appliance thoroughly.. microwave, kettle, iron,
    Extras
    Clean paintwork

It's my birthday t/m and I've decided to just do the essentials and then I am going to have a 'spoil myself day'. I'll be on my own most of the day - DS in America and DH working lates.
    Going to include -
Have a walk along the beach.
    Bubble bath and manicure
    Cook some yummy meals.
    Watch some Spanish news
Listen to some of my music
Read for a couple of hours or so
Couple of glasses of a decent wine
    Bliss :D

I'll catch up with the lists on Wednesday.

Hugs all round. Gws vibes, sticks and spoons a-plenty if you need some.
Hope you all have a tranquil Tuesday
