Hey, mine wasn't an attack. I did say your option, which is OOS now (so warm air flowing now:P) was the best choice overall. I only pointed out that you put the specs there as if the fact it has an i7 outdated by 2 generations and ULV and a very basic graphic card mean it's a super bargain. It's an old laptop so of course cheaper now.

I think this is a good choice personally. Thought it was a good deal when this came up. http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-yoga-510-14-full-hd-2-in-1-with-faster-ssd-storage-black-10153587-pdt.html?awc=1599_1484735626_91a2a0fc17e38538208e4b066a35d6cf&srcid=369&xtor=AL-1&cmpid=aff~HotUKDeals~Communities%20%26%20UGC~47868&awid=47868.

Not everyone wants a 17 inches beast for a laptop, that's bulky and so on. Screen would be better on the Lenovo as it's smaller and so higher PPI and Wifi AC, that with OP usage would probably be better than having a cheap and old graphic card. Only thing better on the DELL is more ram, but your Dell only has a HDD.

As for the Dell outlet, found this one http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/SecondaryInventorySearch.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dfh&cs=ukdfh1&key=a1ObhLc4JJERlYkZJkuQ5tegKHTp3LPa&puid=e8299cde. There are discounts on the outlet stuff so would work out cheaper than the price shown there and they do free delivery at the moment if I'm not wrong.

It's OOS because I bought it, clown :)

Saying the LENOVO YOGA 510 screen is better is a bit like saying the FHD screen on my phone is better because of more PPI. A bit silly.
We should all just use our phones and forget about big screen TVs. :)
The Yoga screen puts out 250 nits. The Dell 300.
There is a lot more to screen quality than PPI.
The Dell an aluminium chassis, not cheap plastic.

The Yoga; i3 6th gen and not quad core and ULV. :rotfl:

The Dell has an optical disc drive. Useful for people who may still have DVDs laying around.

If portability is for what the OP is looking, then it might suit. If not, then dealing with a smaller screen and smaller keypad might not suit...not backlit either or even a numerical keyboard.

I don't know why you mention the Yoga's WiFi capability as if it was somehow superior.
The Dell has the same spec: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 (a/b/g/h/n/ac) and dedicated graphics. ;)

The Yoga has less RAM too.

So yes...I would say that the Dell is a super bargain. Just about everything is better, contrary to your claim.

Your Dell Outlet link does not work.

Either way, the point is to stop the OP wasting money on overpriced rubbish.

Your childish barbs about i7 5th generation have no place here.
Easy for me to install Windows 7 Pro and upgrade to Windows 10 Pro if it suits.
The OP wants a machine that suits her needs, not just the latest plastic toy from which she would be lucky to get a couple of years of usage.

Hey I haven't called you names. Keep your wig on. Call someone else clown. I have been polite so no need to get rude because someone has dared say something to you. You can say the same things without resorting to offending.

Who are you to say this or that laptop suits her needs better? That laptop suits you needs and if it's OOS because you bought it then why link it? How does it help OP to link something she couldn't buy anyway?
Second, high quality plastic is just as good as aluminium and I say it having a plastic Dell 7000 series and a MacBook.
She said she doesn't watch movies on the laptop so need for a DVD drive, there you go. She said she's not techy and wouldn't know how to swap a HDD for a SSS, so why making her buy something with a HDD that will become slow with fragmentation? That Lenovo isn't overpriced at all for what it is. Normally 2-1 like that full HD and with SDD go for a lot more than 350 pounds.
In the description of your laptop they mention two different models of video card, so I am not even sure what is right in that description. It says Nvidia GT845M in the additional info, then in the description it talks about Nvidia 750M. I'm fairly sure your one is one the variants of this model so probably all that the description talks about doesn't necessarily refer to your particular variant.
Graphic cards tend to overheat and cause problems, just to name a disadvantage of a laptop that has one and yours has a mediocre card so it's not really a plus. DVD drives don't last long on laptops; they stop working after a while pretty easily.
I could go and find a used laptop (since yours is refurbished and not new) with a non ULV cpu for the same money as yours.
HDDs break down more easily than SSDs and are slow.
Have you even handled the Lenovo to label it as plastic rubbish? I said your laptop is a good choice compared to what OP was considering so why are you getting all worked up? Someone has problems with handling the slightest form of criticism here.

You also mentioned the screen... it might be a bit brighter than the Lenovo but a full HD on a screen that's 17 inches is not great.

The Lenovo is made of both plastic and aluminium and gets similar comments as far as build quality goes, from people that have actually handled both laptops. The Dell is quite solid but it's not the sturdiest laptop ever. Same goes for the Lenovo. They both have a good build quality so don't known why you're going on about cheap plastic rubbish.

The labels on the underneath of the laptop have fadded and the only part number I can find is in the instruction booklet.
    MU.AJS00.016-RN.
Or there is a model number ICL50
    SPC 037
  • Dear Nifty all I was "criticising" is the fact you listed the specs of your laptop as if they were anything special. It's an old model. You could probably pick up a bargain if you were to buy some used high end model of 2-3 years ago because you know, Windows laptop lose their value pretty fast.
I was comparing a brand new model (so 2 years warranty) with specs not worse than yours when considered all together for not much more money.

You also very arrogantly said you know what suits OP's needs, when she never said she wants a huge screen or that she needs a DVD drive... get off your high horse. I haven't recommended overpriced rubbish as you said. Ah the Lenovo charges faster as well... you probably can't stay portable for long with that beast of a laptop you have :P
Overpriced rubbish would be those laptops Currys sell for 500 pounds with HDD and HD screen...

I have everything at hand for when you are ready for the clean install. Have you saved your important data elsewhere? Are there any programs that you would need to reinstall, such as Office?

    Hey I haven't called.....

How about you give it a rest? No one is reading it anyway.

You started off badly and now you are rambling on endlessly.

Haven't you got any friends you can annoy?

Dear Nifty all I was "criticising" is the fact you listed the specs of your laptop as if they were anything special.

I listed the specs to show that the ACER at £400 wasn't at all good value.
It's only you who arrogantly assumed that it was for some other reason. Now please, pipe down, you are like an annoying fly.

As for your recommendation, click here for more details. Useless. Wasting everyone's time and filling the thread with utter nonsense.

Again, I haven't attacked you like you have attacked me. You have a right cheek telling me to pipe down when it's you the one resorting to calling me "clown", saying I'm talking rubbish etc. You're the one getting all wound up.

I agree that for that money you can get better specs than that Acer.
Well that Lenovo is in stock in some stores. There was a couple in Scotland and so on that did have stock, and I don't know where OP lives so she might find it in stock in her local one.
How is it utter nonsense? Have I recommended an overpriced laptop that's bad value for money? Where is your valid recommendation? Since you said you mentioned that Dell only to prove the Acer's bad value for money

I'm a 30-year-old woman so go and talk condescendingly to someone else and learn some manners; adult people have discussions without having to belittle others.

For the record, you're the one aannoying here with your ways. As soon as someone says something to you, you jump at their throat. Maybe being seen as some kind of tech guru on here has gone to your head.

    Again, .

it seems salving your ego is more important to you than being concerned about the OP having to trawl through your rubbish. Please....just stop. It's just annoying nonsense. I'm certainly not bothering to read it.

I don't know if you've noticed, but the OP, who is also a woman, is attempting to simply improve the performance of her old laptop before spending hundreds of pounds on something that she does not really need.

    So...if you don't mind....
