8 GB will be fine for both jobs.
I meant the part number of the laptop.
Next you need to decide what you need to save from the laptop and where you are going to save it.

I agree (as a user of a 9- or maybe 10-year-old Acer myself).grumpycrab wrote: »9 years for your Acer is very good and in my experience current budget models around £300 will be nowhere near the quality of that Acer0 -

Absolutely everything. So you will need to copy them elsewhere or simply swap the hard drive for another. Not at all a difficult job.

I have a ten year old ACER(purchased Feb 2007) running Windows 10 Pro 32 bit.
Though I did up the RAM to 2GB and upgrade the CPU to a dual core; AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60. Paid £6 for that CPU
Not worth spending more to upgrade the RAM to 4GB.0 -

Let's list some of the spec;
Intel Core i7-5500U
17.3" Full HD Touchscreen with Corning Gorilla® NBT Glass
Backlit keyboard with numeric keypad
Dedicated graphics card 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT845M
For £400, the ACER is bog standard.
i7 5th gen and not quad core and ULV... probably similar to an i3 7th gen now (don't have exact benchmarks at hand)... just saying.
It is a better choice overall compared to what OP is considering, but let's not see that processor and graphic card as super duper when they are nothing special by now.
Dell Outlet is a good place to look at and do recommend Dell, but not HP in my personal experience. Dell uses sturdier plastic in the budget moodels.0 -

Find a better specced laptop for the price I paid right now or your post is full of hot air.
Find a better specced laptop within DELL Outlet for £400 or under or your post is, as I imagine, an utter waste of time.
I didn't claim that the laptop was the best in the world. I used it as a benchmark for what the OP could get for her money.
Do you have an i3 7th Gen 17.3" FHD Touchscreen laptop with a backlit keyboard and dedicated graphics card to offer, within the OP's budget?
If you have something better, show it....otherwise don't waste our time.0 -

Hey, mine wasn't an attack. I did say your option, which is OOS now (so warm air flowing now:P) was the best choice overall. I only pointed out that you put the specs there as if the fact it has an i7 outdated by 2 generations and ULV and a very basic graphic card mean it's a super bargain. It's an old laptop so of course cheaper now.
I think this is a good choice personally. Thought it was a good deal when this came up. http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-yoga-510-14-full-hd-2-in-1-with-faster-ssd-storage-black-10153587-pdt.html?awc=1599_1484735626_91a2a0fc17e38538208e4b066a35d6cf&srcid=369&xtor=AL-1&cmpid=aff~HotUKDeals~Communities%20%26%20UGC~47868&awid=47868.
Not everyone wants a 17 inches beast for a laptop, that's bulky and so on. Screen would be better on the Lenovo as it's smaller and so higher PPI and Wifi AC, that with OP usage would probably be better than having a cheap and old graphic card. Only thing better on the DELL is more ram, but your Dell only has a HDD.
As for the Dell outlet, found this one http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/SecondaryInventorySearch.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dfh&cs=ukdfh1&key=a1ObhLc4JJERlYkZJkuQ5tegKHTp3LPa&puid=e8299cde. There are discounts on the outlet stuff so would work out cheaper than the price shown there and they do free delivery at the moment if I'm not wrong.0
